The event, which is set for Friday, Feb. 13 at the Intuit Dome, will feature a mini-tournament format pitting future stars against each other in front of a global audience.&nbsp;
The 28-player pool consists of the brightest NBA rookies, sophomores, and G League standouts who will be drafted into four teams to compete in the Rising Stars showcase. Hall of Famers Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady will serve as honorary coaches, while Austin Rivers will lead the G League squad.&nbsp;

Anchored by a core of versatile perimeter defenders like Lu Dort, Cason Wallace, Jalen Williams, and MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, along with interior enforcer Isaiah Hartenstein and shot blocker Chet Holmgren, the Thunder built a defensive identity predicated on length, switchability, and relentless pressure.
But as history has shown, regular-season defense doesn&rsquo;t always translate to playoff dominance. Matchups become more intentional, rotations tighten, and elite scorers are given room to manipulate even the best schemes. Jamal Murray has battled through injuries and hasn&rsquo;t quite looked like the same dynamic scorer from their 2023 championship run. Michael Porter Jr. has been inconsistent, while Aaron Gordon&rsquo;s offensive impact has waned due to multiple injuries. Denver&rsquo;s bench has also taken a step back this year, with limited contributions outside of Russell Westbrook, Julian Strawther and Peyton Watson.
If Murray can elevate his game and Porter Jr. can knock down shots consistently, Denver remains a title threat. But the margin for error is much slimmer than last year. Jokic can only carry so much weight &ndash; the Nuggets need their supporting cast to deliver, or another early exit could be looming.
Los Angeles Clippers &mdash; Can we see James Harden and Kawhi Leonard lead this team to playoff glory?
After losing Paul George to free agency last summer, many assumed the Clippers&rsquo; title window had slammed shut. But the resurgence of James Harden and Kawhi Leonard has breathed life back into their playoff hopes. Harden has embraced the role of primary playmaker, averaging 22.8 points and 8.7 assists per game, while Leonard has quietly had one of the most efficient scoring seasons of his career in recent years, shooting 49.8% from the field and 41.1% from deep.
The Clippers finished the season strong with their offense clicking and defense holding steady. Yet the question remains &ndash; can their two stars carry them through the gauntlet of the Western Conference? Minnesota Timberwolves &mdash; How will Julius Randle perform in the playoffs?
Minnesota shocked many by acquiring Julius Randle at the trade deadline, moving on from Karl-Anthony Towns in the process. The Wolves hoped that Randle, a more physical and downhill-oriented forward, would provide a better playoff fit alongside Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert. However, Randle&rsquo;s postseason history raises concerns &mdash; in 15 career playoff games, he&rsquo;s averaged just 15.6 points on 34.4% shooting from the field.
Minnesota will need more than that if they hope to build on last year&rsquo;s conference finals run. Randle must adapt his game to playoff basketball, where defenses are better prepared and isolation-heavy play often becomes less efficient. LOS ANGELES LAKERS
The Los Angeles Lakers have dealt with championship aspirations and expectations maybe more than any other team in NBA history. With 17 championships, which is tied with the Boston Celtics for the most all-time, it's clear why. This franchise is used to collecting hardware by season&rsquo;s end, and did so as recently as 2020, defeating the Miami Heat to win the championship in the midst of a global pandemic and in the wake of the passing of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.&nbsp;
So, how can a team that won a title in recent years already be facing pressure to win again?
The Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, are heading into this season fresh off a clean sweep in the Western Conference Finals by the eventual-champion Denver Nuggets. While seemingly negative on paper, the season was largely viewed as a success, as nobody expected this squad to make a Conference-Finals run after starting an abysmal 2-10.&nbsp;
How did they turn their season around? By ending the Russell Westbrook experiment, the Lakers landed D&rsquo;Angelo Russell and Jarred Vanderbilt in a trade, in addition to trading for Rui Hachimura. These three, along with a blossoming Austin Reaves and a rejuvenated James and Davis, brought the Lakers to familiar heights &ndash; defeating the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round and taking down the then-defending-champion Golden State Warriors in round two.&nbsp;
It was clear that the Lakers fixed their mistakes and were back on course. Even the naysayers had to tip their cap after the team&rsquo;s surprising Western Conference Finals run.
Now comes the familiar pressure.&nbsp;
This offseason, Lakers were able to keep last year&rsquo;s core together, re-signing Russell, Reaves and Hachimura, while adding quality role players in Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Jaxson Hayes and Cam Reddish. This is really the first time in the LeBron-Lakers era that the team has been given the green light to try again for a second season. Seeing as the team didn&rsquo;t come together until late last season, it would have been very much in the Lakers&rsquo; nature to come into this year with a completely different-looking team. Instead, the front office chose to run it back, aside from some changes on the margins. This decision is what puts them in the win-or-bust category.&nbsp;
With LeBron entering his 21st NBA season, that sentiment is stronger than ever. The Lakers have to take advantage of the fact that James is still playing at such a high level so late in his career. Being a sports team in Hollywood (especially one with 17 championships) you need to not only have the stars, you need to win. If the Lakers have stars but aren&rsquo;t winning, then they are essentially just becoming their neighbors, the Angels. The Lakers have the script ready for them, but we&rsquo;ll have to wait and see if they can top the box office.
PHILADELPHIA 76ERS
 
With the Philadelphia 76ers coming off their second-round exit in the 2023 NBA Playoffs courtesy of the Boston Celtics in seven games, there&rsquo;s pressure to take the next step and win a championship. This pressure isn&rsquo;t new; they&rsquo;ve been feeling it for several years.&nbsp;
Superstar center Joel Embiid won his first Most Valuable Player award last season, giving the 76ers two MVPs on the team, with James Harden being the other. While the duo has looked good in the short time they&rsquo;ve been together, they haven&rsquo;t looked like two MVPs playing side-by-side. This is especially true in the postseason, with Embiid and Harden both known for sometimes regressing in playoff series compared to the regular season. 
The fact that Doc Rivers was the team&rsquo;s head coach, a man who has coached three teams that all lost a playoff series after being up 3-1 and someone who has a 6-10 record in Game 7s, certainly didn&rsquo;t help. There's no question that he also deserves his fair share of blame for the team&rsquo;s issues. All of this, along with the lingering effects of the Ben Simmons debacle, came to a head last season.&nbsp;
This offseason, the team parted ways with Rivers, and Harden requested a trade. While Harden has yet to be traded and it is possible he remains with the team, the Sixers obviously aren&rsquo;t in an ideal state. It remains to be seen what kind of pieces they can get back for Harden.
In the meantime, the Sixers hired former Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse to replace Rivers. Nurse is a great coach who won a championship in 2019 and the NBA's Coach of the Year award in 2020. But if the team begins to underperform, a new coach &ndash; especially one who&rsquo;s known for previously incorporating a rougher defensive style when it came to guarding Embiid &ndash; could become an easy target for blame for the Philly faithful.&nbsp;
The 76ers might have more pressure on them than any other team this upcoming season. The reigning MVP, a former MVP (or the trade package they can get for him), a former Coach of the Year and a solid supporting cast mean this team is built to win now. This team is no stranger to win-or-bust expectations, but this may be the most pressure they&rsquo;ve faced yet.&nbsp;

NEW YORK (AP) &mdash; Anthony Edwards scored 23 points, Karl-Anthony Towns had 22 points, 14 rebounds and five assists, and the Minnesota Timberwolves held off the Brooklyn Nets 107-102 on Tuesday night.
Rudy Gobert had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Minnesota, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Mike Conley scored 18 points, nine in the fourth quarter.
Spencer Dinwiddie had 30 points and six assists, Mikal Bridges scored 24 points and Dorian Finney-Smith had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Nets, who had their three-game win streak snapped. Their lead over Miami for the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference was cut to one game after the Heat&rsquo;s 118-105 victory in Detroit.
Similar to their first meeting, a 124-123 Nets win, the teams traded momentum in the game, which featured 24 lead changes and eight ties. But Minnesota shot 53% in the fourth quarter, and Towns gave the Timberwolves the lead for good when he made a pair of free throws with a minute remaining.
Dinwiddie had a chance to tie the game with a 3-pointer, but it hit the back rim.
Minnesota&rsquo;s length wreaked havoc on Brooklyn&rsquo;s offense early, and the Nets shot just 29% in the first quarter. Towns had six points, eight rebounds and four assists in the period, and the Wolves led 31-24 after one.
The Nets found their shooting touch in the second quarter, especially from the outside, where they made 5 of 8 from 3-point range. Finney-Smith hit a pair of 3-pointers in Brooklyn&rsquo;s 11-0 run, and the Nets outscored Minnesota 30-20 in the second, taking a three-point halftime lead.
Brooklyn outscored Minnesota 26-10 over a span of 9:46 between the second and third quarters. The Nets scored the first eight points of the third, building their largest lead, 62-51.

HOUSTON (AP) &mdash; Anthony Davis scored 40 points, LeBron James had 18 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds to tie Jason Kidd for fourth place with his 107th triple-double and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Houston Rockets 134-109 on Sunday night.
The Lakers (40-38) moved two games over .500 and into a tie for seventh with the New Orleans Pelicans in the Western Conference with four games to go. Los Angeles has won six of its last seven games and owns the tiebreaker over the Pelicans.
Davis scored 27 in the first half en route to his first 40-point performance since scoring 55 against the Washington Wizards on Dec. 4 and his third of the season.
Lakers starter D&rsquo;Angelo Russell, who has started every game since being acquired in a three-team trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 9, did not return to play in the second half due to left foot soreness. Russell had six points, four assists and three rebounds in 15 minutes.
In his 13 games with the Lakers, Russell had been averaging 18 points, 6.5 assists and three rebounds.
Alperen Sengun notched his third straight double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds, Jalen Green scored 24 points and Kevin Porter Jr. chipped in 20 points. Prior to this stretch, Sengun had one double-double over the previous nine games played.
The Lakers owned a 70-60 halftime lead, which the Rockets cut to six with 9:38 to go in the third quarter on a reverse layup by Green.
With 30.3 seconds left in the third quarter, James got a roar from the Lakers fans with an emphatic one-handed tomahawk dunk to bring the Lakers&rsquo; lead back to 16. That was a part of a 20-7 run by Los Angeles to extend the lead to 117-90 with 7:56 to go.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &mdash; Shaedon Sharpe scored 27 points, Kevin Knox II added 19 points and the short-handed Portland Trail Blazers beat the playoff-hopeful Minnesota Timberwolves 107-105 on Sunday.
Trendon Watford had 15 points and Skylar Mays finished with 13 points and nine assists in his second game with Portland, which had lost 11 of 12 and was without four regular starters.
The Trail Blazers trailed by 12 late in the third quarter before rallying to beat Minnesota, which started the day ninth in the Western Conference.
&ldquo;Every single person that got out on that floor tonight, they gave it all they had and that&rsquo;s all I want from our guys,&rdquo; Portland coach Chauncey Billups said. &ldquo;To play as hard as you can, play unselfish and be a good teammate and see what happens.&rdquo;
Anthony Edwards scored 37 points for the Timberwolves, who have lost three in a row and started the day a half-game behind the Los Angeles Lakers and a game ahead of Oklahoma City for the 10th and the final play-in spot in the West.
&ldquo;We have too many guys not playing really well right now,&rdquo; Minnesota coach Chris Finch said. &ldquo;This was kind of who we&rsquo;ve been all season in these types of games and we do it again. You know, obviously, timing of it is extra painful, but we got to get guys playing better.&rdquo;
While they&rsquo;re in the running for the playoffs, the Timberwolves are 5-10 against the five teams with the worst records in the NBA.
&ldquo;We always fall short, it seems,&rdquo; Edwards said of struggles against the bottom teams. &ldquo;It always haunts us. And tonight, once again, yep.&rdquo;
Edwards&rsquo; dunk gave Minnesota an 84-72 lead with 3:37 left in the third quarter before the Trail Blazers went on a 19-4 run to take a fourth-quarter lead with 7:57 left. The Timberwolves shot 6 of 17 in the fourth and Portland outscored them by six.
&ldquo;I think we executed plays,&rdquo; said Mays, a 2020 second-round draft pick by Atlanta who signed a 10-day contract with the Trail Blazers on March 30. &ldquo;I think we defended and made shots tough on them and attacked mismatches. I thought we were pretty good.&rdquo;
Edwards put Minnesota ahead with 2:22 left, but Sharpe converted a lay-up on the other end. Sharpe, the rookie who was the No. 7 overall draft pick, scored six points during an 8-3 run.
&ldquo;He&rsquo;s just growing up, man,&rdquo; Billups said. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s just growing up and it&rsquo;s fun watching him.&rdquo;
Trailing by two, the Timberwolves couldn&rsquo;t get a clean shot off on their final possession as Anderson&rsquo;s wayward attempt landed on top of the backboard.
&ldquo;You have to have the appropriate fear in this league and a respect for, I don&rsquo;t want to say these type of teams, but the teams that ain&rsquo;t doing so well,&rdquo; Anderson said. &ldquo;We got to be able to handle business.&rdquo;
TOUGH FINISH
Portland was 26-26 on Feb. 3 and had won five of six, firmly in the playoff race. Five days later, the Blazers made moves at the trade deadline to acquire Knox, Cam Reddish, Matisse Thybulle and Ryan Arcidiacono while trading Josh Hart and Gary Payton Jr.
They went 5-17 following the trade deadline. Damian Lillard and Jusuf Nurkic have missed six games in a row, Anfernee Simons has been out for seven straight and Jerami Grant missed his 10th in a row on Sunday.
Without Reddish (lumbar soreness) and Nasir Little (left ankle sprain) on Sunday, the Trail Blazers were missing nine of their top 12 scorers in total points this season either due to injury or trades.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &mdash; Jaylen Brown scored 35 points, Jayson Tatum added 22 as the Boston Celtics held on to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 104-102 on Wednesday night.
Malcolm Brogdon added 12 points off the bench for Boston, which overcame a tough shooting night to win for the third time in four games.
The Celtics shot 40.5% from the field and were 12 of 40 (30%) from 3-point territory. They remained a game ahead of Philadelphia for second in the Eastern Conference and closed within 2 1/2 games of Milwaukee for first.
Anthony Edwards had 28 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, which has lost three of four. The Timberwolves started the day seventh in the West, one game ahead of Oklahoma City, Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kyle Anderson scored 15 for Minnesota and Naz Reid added 15 off the bench.
Trailing 101-99, Edwards missed a 3 with 32.2 seconds left that would have given the Timberwolves their first lead since the first quarter. Grant Williams collected an offensive rebound for Boston and won a jump ball after being tied up.
Tatum finished with a pair of free throws to put the game away. Edwards and Anderson were then ejected with 1.7 seconds left after arguing with officials.
It was a defensive struggle in the first half between two teams that started the day in the top-10 in defensive rating in the league. The Celtics shot 32.6% in the first half and the Timberwolves finished at 36.4%.
PHYSICAL PLAY
The matchup turned testy at times. Brown was assessed a technical foul in the first half after an altercation with Minnesota&rsquo;s Rudy Gobert. Brown, who is wearing a mask after sustaining a facial fracture, seemed to take offense after getting hit with an elbow from Gobert.
Gobert was given a Flagrant I foul in the second half after he challenged a dunk from Tatum. Gobert hit Tatum with his hands as he elevated and Tatum fell hard to the court. Officials raised the foul to flagrant after a review. Moments earlier, Gobert also got a technical foul for hanging on the rim after a dunk.
TOWNS GETTING CLOSER
The Wolves released an injury update on Karl-Anthony Towns on Wednesday and said the big man is expected to return &ldquo;in the coming weeks&rdquo; from his right calf strain. Towns, out since Nov. 28, has started basketball activities.
He was averaging 20.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 21 games before the injury.

Cam Carter added 10 points for the Wildcats (21-7, 9-6 Big 12), who trailed 34-31 at the break before their 18-4 charge gave them control. They coasted from there to a school record-tying seventh win over a ranked team this season.
Keyonte George hit six 3-pointers and scored 23 points for Baylor (20-8, 9-6), which had won seven of its last eight against the Wildcats and three straight in Manhattan. LJ Cryer added four 3s and finished with 16 points.
The game was a rematch for Bears coach Scott Drew and Kansas State counterpart Jerome Tang, who spent 19 years on Drew&rsquo;s bench. And it was every bit as wild as the Wildcats&rsquo; 97-95 overtime win in early January.

No. 14 Kansas State beats No. 9 Baylor with big second half

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) &mdash; Anthony Edwards scored 31 points and Jaylen Nowell added a career-high 30 to lead Minnesota to a 143-118 win over Utah on Wednesday night amid word the&nbsp;Timberwolves, Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers were part of an eight-player swap&nbsp;hours ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
&ldquo;It was crazy, the last six hours,&rdquo; Edwards said. &ldquo;But, I mean, we&rsquo;re here to play basketball at the end of the day. We can&rsquo;t really feed into that &mdash; we have nothing to do with that. (My teammates) did a great job of staying locked in and they kept me locked in.&rdquo;
Playing loose, the Timberwolves set a season high with 79 points in the first half and led 107-80 midway through the third quarter, helped by 64% shooting from the field and 61% from 3-point range.
While not speaking directly about a trade that hadn&rsquo;t been announced, Minnesota coach Chris Finch detailed the difficulty if playing while the roster was in flux.
&ldquo;We just talked briefly about things before taking the floor. These things, it&rsquo;s unfortunate timing, you don&rsquo;t ever get to pick your timing. Maybe in some ways, it was good that we could just play a game and not have to overthink things. But guys were ready,&rdquo; Finch said.
Luka Garza scored a career-high 25 points and the Timberwolves made 23 3-pointers at a 54% shooting clip, tying their highest output of the season.
&ldquo;It was definitely strange,&rdquo; Garza said of the deal happening just before the game. &ldquo;But I don&rsquo;t want to ever look back in my time in NBA and be like, I didn&rsquo;t make the most of what was my childhood dream.&rdquo;
The three-team trade was confirmed to The Associated Press on Wednesday night by a person with knowledge of the deal, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the teams hadn&rsquo;t announced the major deal made ahead of Thursday afternoon&rsquo;s trade deadline.
In the deal, the Timberwolves sent D&rsquo;Angelo Russell to the Lakers, where he played his first two NBA seasons from 2015-17. Utah shipped Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Mike Conley to Minnesota and dealt Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley to the Lakers. The Jazz received Russell Westbrook, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Damian Jones from the Lakers, as well as a first-round draft pick in 2027.
The Jazz were short-handed in the game without four players who have logged significant minutes this season, as the teams were just shells of their former selves.
The Timberwolves were also missing a host of regulars as Rudy Gobert (groin), Kyle Anderson (back) and Austin Rivers (suspension) were held out, and Karl-Anthony Towns is still sidelined with a right calf strain.
Lauri Markkanen scored 21 points and Collin Sexton had 20 in Utah&rsquo;s worst home loss of the season. Their worst road loss of the season was a 26-point defeat to Milwaukee on Dec. 17.
&ldquo;Credit to Minnesota, they made a lot of shots and we missed a lot of make-able shots,&rdquo; Utah coach Will Hardy said of his team making just 31 of 65 shots in the paint. &ldquo;They made 23 3s at 54% and that was too hard for us to overcome.&rdquo;
This Jazz have assembled a formidable collection of draft capital, including key pieces from Minnesota in last summer&rsquo;s Gobert deal.

Conley was Utah&rsquo;s only true point guard &ndash; and one of the last holdovers from the Donovan Mitchell and Gobert era. Now, Sexton will have the opportunity to prove he can be an effective starting playmaker on a winning team.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves will see if they can thrive with a veteran, pass-first point guard like Conley, who is averaging a career high 7.7 assists this season.
Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson said they have something special coming their way in Conley.
&ldquo;He&rsquo;s a leader, great point guard and a guy that makes everybody&rsquo;s life easier on the court,&rdquo; Clarkson said. &ldquo;That guy was like Yoda, honestly. He had so many stories and he had such an enlightenment about him. You just listened to him. &hellip; He can communicate with anyone.&rdquo;

DENVER (AP) &mdash; Nikola Jokic posted his 19th triple-double of the season by halftime and the Denver Nuggets rode a 49-point first quarter to a 146-112 rout of the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night.
Jokic finished with 20 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds. It was the second time in his career the big man has notched a triple-double by halftime. Jokic took a seat late in the third quarter with the Western Conference leaders ahead by a large margin.
Denver led 49-19 after the first quarter &mdash; including a 32-2 run &mdash; as the Nuggets shot 79.2% from the floor. The 49 points tied for the second-most in a quarter in the franchise&rsquo;s NBA history. Michael Porter Jr. led the way by scoring 19 of his 30 points in the opening period.
Aaron Gordon added 24 for the Nuggets, who set season highs in points and assists (44).
Anthony Edwards and Luka Garza both had 19 points for Minnesota. The frustration for the Timberwolves flashed with D&rsquo;Angelo Russell getting ejected after picking up two technical fouls in third quarter. He had 10 points.

Mat Ishbia said his first major project as owner of the Phoenix Suns will be to listen to employees and figure out what problems they&rsquo;ve faced.
After that, he&rsquo;ll start fixing.
The tenure of embattled Robert Sarver as owner of the NBA&rsquo;s Suns and WNBA&rsquo;s Phoenix Mercury officially ended Tuesday, when Ishbia &mdash; the chairman, president and chief executive of United Wholesale Mortgage, plus a member of Michigan State&rsquo;s NCAA championship team in 2000 &mdash; took over. He will be governor, while his brother, Justin Ishbia, will be alternate governor.
Justin Ishbia will be the team&rsquo;s second-largest shareholder, behind his brother. They acquired more than 50% of the franchise, which includes all of what was Sarver&rsquo;s stake as well as some holdings of minority partners, and the sale valued the Suns and Mercury at $4 billion.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m going to spend a lot of time listening and learning, then make the adjustments to make this not only one of the best organizations in the NBA but also one of the best places to work,&rdquo; Mat Ishbia told The Associated Press. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s a huge part of my success here in Michigan and it will be a big part of our success now in Phoenix. I don&rsquo;t have enough information to know what exactly it&rsquo;s been like, but I will dig in and roll up my sleeves and figure it out over the next three, four, five months-plus.&rdquo;
The 43-year-old Ishbia was announced as the owner-in-waiting of the Suns on Dec. 20, and the last hurdle before the purchase became official was cleared Monday night when it was revealed that the NBA&rsquo;s board of governors approved him as the next owner.
The transaction was completed Tuesday. Ishbia will hold a news conference in Phoenix on Wednesday.
Sarver was suspended for one year by the NBA in mid-September after an investigation found he engaged in workplace misconduct that included racist speech and hostile behavior toward employees. About a week after NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced the suspension and $10 million fine &mdash; the most allowed by league rule &ndash; Sarver said he would start the process of finding a buyer.
Ishbia&rsquo;s name had been linked to other potential sales of pro sports teams in the past, including the NFL&rsquo;s Washington Commanders. And the self-described basketball nut jumped quickly to acquire the Suns and Mercury.
&ldquo;This is what I wanted the whole time,&rdquo; Ishbia said. &ldquo;My name got linked to a lot of things. That doesn&rsquo;t mean it was actually necessarily right. The Phoenix Suns, in my opinion, is one of the elite franchises in one of the elite cities in America. To have a chance to be one of the owners of the Suns and Phoenix Mercury is a dream come true.&rdquo;
Ishbia&rsquo;s company, UWM, employs about 7,000 people. It had over $226.5 billion in mortgage originations in 2021, which the company says is a record for wholesale volume.
&ldquo;We&rsquo;re all about culture,&rdquo; Ishbia said. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re all about people. We&rsquo;re all about the word &lsquo;team.&rsquo; It&rsquo;s almost like a match made in heaven &mdash; the city, the location, the NBA, my love of basketball. And I can come in, take some of the really good things they&rsquo;re doing but maybe make some changes from a culture perspective.&rdquo;
There is one immediate order of business: The NBA trade deadline is Thursday.
The Suns &mdash; who went to the NBA Finals in 2021, losing a 2-0 lead and falling to Milwaukee in six games, had the best regular-season record in the league last season &mdash; are in a muddled Western Conference playoff race this season.
Ishbia said he and team president of basketball operations James Jones, who is also the general manager, have talked and will keep talking while Jones gauges the market to see what moves, if any, are right for the Suns.
&ldquo;We&rsquo;ve got to make sure we put ourselves in a great position,&rdquo; Ishbia said. &ldquo;I think we have an amazing team and I think we&rsquo;re in a great position right now. Will I be involved? Yes. Are we highly active? Yes. But at the same time, I think we have a championship-contending team without doing anything over the next two days.&rdquo;
Ishbia played for Tom Izzo at Michigan State, and he got into the 2000 title game against Florida at the end. He knew he was out of bounds when he picked up a loose ball in the final moments, but no referee blew the whistle. Sensing opportunity, Ishbia tried a reverse layup at the buzzer; it missed, but he celebrated anyway.
He senses another opportunity now.
&ldquo;For me, this is a lifelong dream,&rdquo; he said.

Ishbia will hold a news conference in Phoenix on Wednesday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) &mdash; Paolo Banchero had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Wendell Carter Jr. added 20 points and 12 rebounds and the Orlando Magic took advantage of Charlotte&rsquo;s poor foul shooting to beat the Hornets 119-113 Sunday.
The Hornets made just one of nine free throws in the fourth quarter while Orlando was going 13 of 15. Charlotte finished 11 of 23 from the line in its fourth straight loss &mdash; Orlando wound up 27 of 30 on foul shots.
Markelle Fultz had 16 points and Frank Wagner chipped in with 14 for the Magic, who improved to 9-19 on the road. Orlando has won three of its last four overall.
The Magic overcame a terrific second half by LaMelo Ball, who had 26 of his 33 points after the break and finished with six 3-pointers. Terry Rozier had 24 points for the Hornets.
Charlotte trailed by five after three quarters, but Ball knocked down back-to-back 3s in the first 33 seconds of the fourth period for a 91-90 lead.
The Hornets&rsquo; momentum didn&rsquo;t last long as the Magic built a 110-103 lead behind Fultz, who scored on short jumpers and finished 8 of 13 from the field.
Mason Plumlee missed a layup and four straight free throws during that span as the Magic began to pull away.
Wagner helped seal the win with a step-through in the lane for a layup to put the Magic up 115-107 with 35 seconds left.
Orlando outrebounded Charlotte 52-39.

Orlando Magic center Mo Bamba has been suspended four games without pay and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Austin Rivers has been suspended three games without pay for their roles in an on-court altercation, it was announced today by NBA executive vice president and head of basketball operations Joe Dumars.
In addition, Magic guard Jalen Suggs&nbsp;has been suspended one game without pay for escalating the altercation by aggressively grabbing Rivers around the neck and pulling him to the floor.
Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels has been fined $20,000 for his role in the altercation, which included running into the scrum and pushing Bamba in the back.

Bamba and Rivers engaged in an altercation in front of the Magic bench, with both players throwing punches. Suggs and McDaniels then entered the altercation as non-peacemakers, which resulted in a continued escalation of the situation.
The incident, for which all four players received technical fouls and were ejected, occurred with 1:32 remaining in the third quarter of the Magic&rsquo;s 127-120 win over the Timberwolves on Feb. 3 at Target Center.
Following the incident, Bamba attempted to continue to engage with Rivers in a hostile manner in the corridor outside the locker rooms, where he also aggressively shoved a security representative. Both Bamba and Rivers continued the escalation on social media following the game.
Bamba will begin serving his four-game suspension and Suggs will serve his one-game suspension on Sunday, Feb. 5 when the Magic visit the Charlotte Hornets at Spectrum Center.
Rivers will begin serving his three-game suspension on Sunday, Feb. 5 when the Timberwolves host the Denver Nuggets at Target Center.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &mdash; A&nbsp;fight broke out and punches were thrown&nbsp;during the game between the Orlando Magic and Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night.
Five players were ejected following the brawl, which started in front of the Orlando bench late in the third quarter. Minnesota guard Austin Rivers and Magic center Mo Bamba were the initial players involved, and it spilled over to include several others on the court.
Rivers, Jaden McDaniels and Taurean Prince were ejected from the Timberwolves. Jalen Suggs was tossed along with Bamba for Orlando, which went on to win 127-120.

Bamba and Suggs were not available for comment after the game.
&ldquo;You obviously want to have your teammate&rsquo;s back and at the same time, you&rsquo;ve got to be a professional,&rdquo; said Orlando center Moritz Wagner, also involved in a skirmish with Detroit in December.
&ldquo;So, that&rsquo;s a challenge for a young team like us. I think this time around we did a good job compared to last time. So, yeah, I don&rsquo;t really know. It&rsquo;s a weird dynamic. You don&rsquo;t really want to be in those situations and it&rsquo;s not really the best look. You want to be professional. At the same time, there is something in me that appreciates the team sticking together like that.&rdquo;
Wagner appeared to get knocked out in that fight with the Pistons in Detroit. Wagner and Detroit&rsquo;s Killian Hayes and Hamadou Diallo were all ejected.
On this night, the fight began with Rivers right in front of the Magic bench as play was ongoing at the far end of the court. Bamba came off the bench and Rivers threw punches at him. Suggs later pulled Rivers away and swung him to the court. McDaniels and Prince joined the scrum.
&ldquo;Their guy came off the bench and threw a punch,&rdquo; Timberwolves coach&nbsp;<a class="paragraph-link" href="https://twitter.com/BallySportsNOR/status/1621722960921772033" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Chris Finch said</a>. &ldquo;Pretty egregious. Then it&rsquo;s a melee, and somehow our guys get punished a lot worse. One guy got sent for not being a peacekeeper. I just looked at the film, and I didn&rsquo;t see any difference between what their guys were doing and what our guys were doing.&rdquo;
The altercation seemed to stem from talk from the Magic bench, particularly Bamba. A few moments earlier, Rivers missed a 3-point attempt in front of the Orlando bench, and Bamba and Markelle Fultz could be seen reacting to the miss.
Rivers said he approached the 7-foot, 231-pound Bamba about his comments.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m not gonna snitch on the dude or whatever, but I just didn&rsquo;t like the way he was talking to me,&rdquo; said Rivers, listed at 6-4 and 200 pounds. &ldquo;For no reason, too. I don&rsquo;t even know that dude. I don&rsquo;t know anything about him. Obviously, I just know he&rsquo;s a player for the Magic. And he proceeded to talk, so that next possession, when I went down there, I just said, pretty much, &lsquo;Just keep it respectful, bro.&rsquo;&rdquo;
Rivers later added: &ldquo;I went up to him and I pressed him, and at that point, it can go one of two ways. I didn&rsquo;t think we were going to get in a fight. But when you stand up that fast and put your hands up &mdash; he threw a punch and missed, thankfully. At that point, I&rsquo;ve got to protect myself. Ain&rsquo;t no one worried about him.&rdquo;

HOUSTON (AP) &mdash; Jalen Green scored a career-high 42 points and the Houston Rockets held on for a 119-114 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night to snap a 13-game losing streak.
Green, the second overall pick in the 2021 draft, had 21 points by halftime and kept up his strong play in the second half to lead the Rockets to their first victory since Dec. 26 at Chicago. They ended their longest skid of the season and also a 10-game home losing streak, winning at home for the first time since Dec. 13 against Phoenix.
Green bounced back after shooting just 3 of 13 with 10 points in a loss to the Timberwolves on Saturday night.
Coach Stephen Silas could see the drive in Green to perform better from the start Monday night.
&ldquo;He was ready for tonight,&rdquo; Silas said. &ldquo;It was time for us to buckle down and have a focused game for 48 minutes and he was the leader of that tonight.&rdquo;
Green said he was &ldquo;a little bit in my head&rdquo; after his bad game Saturday but was determined to turn things around. He was thrilled that his big game helped Houston end its skid.
&ldquo;It feels good,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;My guys relied on me, coaches relied on me. We needed that. We were desperate for it. We came out and executed.&rdquo;

Anthony Edwards had 31 points and D&rsquo;Angelo Russell tied a season high with 30 for the Timberwolves, who had won two straight.

Edwards made the second of two free throws before Green struck again, knocking down a long 2-pointer to leave Houston up 107-100 with 90 seconds to go.
Kenyon Martin Jr. then stole the ball from D&rsquo;Angelo Russell and finished on the other end with a dunk to extend the lead to nine with less than a minute left.

Edwards made a 3 for Minnesota after that but Green hit a 3-pointer for Houston seconds later to make it 112-103 with 41 seconds to go. Minnesota closed within four with 12 seconds remaining but Green answer with a free throw.
Green swished a 3-pointer as time expired in the third quarter to leave Houston up 90-81. The Timberwolves used an 8-0 run, with five points from Russell, to cut the lead to 92-89 with about nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Houston went on a 7-0 run, with a 3 from Garrison Mathews, to take an 81-74 lead with less than four minutes left in the third quarter.
Austin Rivers made a 3 for Minnesota second later, but the Rockets scored the next six points to make it 87-77 with about two minutes left in the quarter.

The Houston Rockets held on for a 119-114 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves to snap a 13-game losing streak.

Green scores career-high 42, Rockets end 13-game skid

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &mdash; D&rsquo;Angelo Russell scored 16 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, Anthony Edwards had 23 and the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied to beat the Toronto Raptors 128-126 on Thursday night.
Kyle Anderson added 20 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, which was down Rudy Gobert and Austin Rivers and playing the second game of a back-to-back after a fourth-quarter collapse a night earlier in Denver.
The Timberwolves erased a 14-point deficit midway through the fourth with a defensive effort not typically seen from Minnesota, particularly without Gobert making an impact down low. Toronto scored just seven points in the final 9:46.
&ldquo;I just think, as a group, we all held each other accountable,&rdquo; Russell said. &ldquo;We all had some early lapses throughout the game where we kind of looked a little subpar just to start, using just what you said as an excuse for us, getting in late and all that. Eventually, we just kind of locked in and tried to do what we&rsquo;re supposed to do.&rdquo;
Scottie Barnes had 12 of his season-high 29 points in the fourth for Toronto, which had won four of six. Fred VanVleet added 25 points and 10 assists for the Raptors. Toronto scored 62 points in the paint without Gobert to protect the rim and added 23 fast-break points.
&ldquo;Russell obviously got them going, shook free a little bit,&rdquo; Raptors coach Nick Nurse said. &ldquo;A few miscues there on defense and then, I don&rsquo;t know, we just didn&rsquo;t probably get enough quality looks at the offensive end either. And it was too bad on some of them because we made the right plays and then didn&rsquo;t take the shot.&rdquo;
Edwards, who was 4 of 12 from the field through three quarters, tied the game at 124 with 3:56 left. Anderson&rsquo;s runner in the lane gave Minnesota its first lead since 4:42 remaining in the first, and Russell added a pair of free throws.
O.G. Anunoby&rsquo;s 3-point attempt with 0.4 seconds remaining was off the mark.
&ldquo;Encouraged by our guys stepping up,&rdquo; Minnesota coach Chris Finch said. &ldquo;They didn&rsquo;t have a lot of gas. Took them a long time to find it. I think the key to the game was we were able to keep scoring until we could find a defensive rhythm.&rdquo;
The Timberwolves outscored Toronto 23-7 over the final 9:46.
&ldquo;We struggled to stop them all night,&rdquo; VanVleet said. &ldquo;They got hot and we kind of stalled out a little bit there the last couple minutes.&rdquo;
Russell was 4 of 4 from 3 in the closing stretch.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s like, you seen &lsquo;Bad Boys 2,&rsquo; when they like, &lsquo;From now on, that&rsquo;s how you shoot,&rsquo;&rdquo; Anderson said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;d say when he&rsquo;s knocking down shots like that, that&rsquo;s the Lo we know and the Lo we love. So that&rsquo;s big time. That&rsquo;s what we need from him. I expect that from him every time we step onto the floor.&rdquo;
VANVLEET KEEPS GOING
VanVleet continued his strong run, taking advantage of Gobert&rsquo;s absence down low by continually going inside. He was also 4 of 6 from 3-point territory.
VanVleet had scored at least 33 points in each of the previous two games.

DENVER (AP) &mdash; Jamal Murray hit a go-ahead floater with 55.9 seconds remaining, Nikola Jokic broke Denver&rsquo;s record for assists on the way to his 14th triple-double of the season, and the Nuggets rallied for a 122-118 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.
Jokic finished with 31 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds as he navigated foul trouble. The two-time reigning NBA MVP passed Alex English for the most assists in team history. Jokic has 3,686 career assists in 568 games &mdash; English recorded 3,679 over 837 games in a Denver uniform.
Jokic's teammates made sure to appreciate the achievement.
&ldquo;We clapped a little bit,&rdquo; said Murray, who finished with 28 points. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s a lot of passes. That&rsquo;s pretty impressive.&rdquo;
English thought so, too.

Murray took over down the stretch to help the Western Conference-leading Nuggets win their 15th straight at home.

Bruce Brown finished with 16 points for a Denver team playing the second game of a back-to-back. Nuggets coach Michael Malone remained in the NBA&rsquo;s health and safety protocol for a second straight game. David Adelman filled in as acting head coach.
&ldquo;Winning ugly. Winning pretty. Who cares?" Adelman said. &ldquo;Good team win.&rdquo;
Adelman compared the combination of Murray and Jokic to a modern-day version of John Stockton and Karl Malone. Given the way Jokic passes, though, it's hard to say who would represent who.
&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t think Stockton can score like me,&rdquo; Murray cracked. &ldquo;I think we&rsquo;re very unique, because they try to guard us in so many different ways.&rdquo;
Jaden McDaniels led seven Minnesota players in double figures with 18 points. The Timberwolves led by 10 early in the second half.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m mad. I&rsquo;m mad as hell we lost because I played bad,&rdquo; said Anthony Edwards, who was 7 of 17 from the floor, including 0 for 4 from 3-point range, and finished with 16 points. "I could have helped us, for sure.&rdquo;
It was an eventful first quarter for Jokic, who had a basket taken away on review (shot-clock violation) and an offensive foul rescinded courtesy of a challenge. He still had 13 points in the period and five assists, including a full-length pass to Brown for a dunk.
&ldquo;He has a John Stockton kind of mind in a 7-foot body,&rdquo; Adelman said.

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch appreciates the easygoing demeanor of Tim Connelly, the president of basketball operations for the Timberwolves. Connelly had a similar role with Denver &mdash; and helped build the team to where it is today &mdash; before leaving last spring.
&ldquo;He&rsquo;s always telling me to have fun, which is simple but hard to sometimes maintain,&rdquo; Finch said. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s always really positive.&rdquo;

LOS ANGELES (AP) &mdash; LeBron James became the second player in NBA history to score 38,000 career points, but Joel Embiid had 35 points and 11 rebounds while the Philadelphia 76ers held off the Los Angeles Lakers 113-112 Sunday night for their seventh win in nine games.
Russell Westbrook failed to get off a clean shot or a pass in the final second under defense from Embiid, allowing the 76ers to hold on for their fourth straight road win. Westbrook claimed he was fouled by Embiid, who disagreed.
James put up 35 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds for the depleted Lakers, who have lost three straight after a five-game winning streak. James surpassed 38,000 points with a jumper that was part of his 8-for-9 start with 16 points in the first quarter.
&ldquo;It's just frustrating to get into those positions and not be able to come out with the victory,&rdquo; James said. &ldquo;We got the stop, gave ourselves a chance to win, and didn't execute. ... We're playing good basketball. We're just not winning games.&rdquo;
James Harden added 24 points and 13 assists for Philadelphia, which swept the season series and beat Los Angeles for the sixth straight time.
&ldquo;Wasn't one of our better games, especially defensively,&rdquo; 76ers coach Doc Rivers said. &ldquo;We had no pace. We were tired. As a coach, you're saying, &lsquo;Let&rsquo;s just get to the fourth quarter and see if we can win it.'&rdquo;
Georges Niang hit a 3-pointer on an assist from Embiid with 1:28 left to put Philadelphia up 111-109. A lengthy video review then overruled a call and resulted in a turnover for James before Embiid drained a 14-foot jumper with 45 seconds left.
Troy Brown Jr. hit a corner 3-pointer to trim Philly's lead to one point, and Embiid missed a jumper with Westbrook in his face.
The Lakers didn't called timeout as Westbrook drove to the hoop with a chance to win it. He couldn't get off a shot or a pass, with an apparent crosscourt pass attempt deflecting off Niang's hands before time ran out.
&ldquo;(Embiid) was grabbing my wrist,&rdquo; Westbrook said. &ldquo;I couldn't get my hand up to shoot. ... Couldn't get the ball up. It's frustrating, but I know the game didn't come down to that one shot.&rdquo;
Embiid disagreed with Westbrook's claim about the final possession.
&ldquo;I don't think I fouled him,&rdquo; Embiid said. &ldquo;Physical play on both sides. You could've called a foul on the other end, too. He was unlucky because he lost the ball. I would say he was unlucky.&rdquo;
Westbrook had 20 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists, extending his NBA record with his 198th career triple-double. Westbrook has four triple-doubles off the bench this season, putting him past Detlef Schrempf for the career record for triple-doubles as a reserve.

James and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are the only members of the NBA&rsquo;s 38,000-point club, and James will pass Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points) atop the career scoring list next month if he remains on his current pace. James didn't want to talk about the milestone afterward.
