NEW YORK &ndash; WNBA Draft Lottery 2023 presented by State Farm&reg; will be broadcast on Friday, Nov. 11, at 5:30 p.m. ET, the WNBA announced.
ESPN2 will air a 30-minute WNBA Draft Lottery special leading into its women&rsquo;s college basketball game that evening featuring defending National Champion South Carolina at Maryland (6 p.m. ET). WNBA Head of League Operations Bethany Donaphin will reveal the results of the Lottery during ESPN2&rsquo;s coverage from Bristol, Conn. &nbsp;ESPN networks will present the Draft Lottery for the 11th consecutive year.
The Indiana Fever, Atlanta Dream, Washington Mystics (from Los Angeles via Atlanta), and Minnesota Lynx have qualified for the 22nd annual WNBA Draft Lottery. The winner will secure the top pick in WNBA Draft 2023 presented by State Farm&reg;, which is currently scheduled to take place on Monday, April 10.
Lottery odds are based on the cumulative records of the two most recent regular seasons (2021 and 2022). &nbsp;With a cumulative record of 11-57, the Fever will have the most chances to land the top pick (442 out of 1,000) and are guaranteed at least the third pick.
Atlanta, which posted a combined record over two seasons of 22-46, will have 276 chances out of 1,000 to win the top pick. Washington has the third-most chances (178) after obtaining the right to swap its own 2023 first-round pick with Atlanta for Los Angeles&rsquo; (25-43) 2023 first-round pick previously acquired by Atlanta in a deal in February 2022. Minnesota (36-32) has 104 chances.
In the drawing, 14 balls numbered 1-14 will be placed in a lottery machine and mixed. &nbsp;Four balls will be drawn to determine a four-digit combination. &nbsp;The team assigned that four-ball combination will receive the No. 1 pick. The four balls will then be placed back into the machine and the process will be repeated to determine the second pick. &nbsp;The team with the lowest cumulative two-year record whose numerical combinations do not come up in the first two four-ball combinations will select third and the remaining team will select fourth.
The order of selection for the remainder of the first round as well as the second and third rounds is determined by inverse order of the teams&rsquo; respective regular-season records solely from 2022. A representative from the independent accounting firm Ernst &amp; Young will be in attendance to oversee the Draft Lottery process. Hall-of-Famer Dikembe Mutombo undergoing treatment for brain tumor

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) &mdash; Emoni Bates was reinstated to the Eastern Michigan basketball team and as a student Thursday after prosecutors agreed to drop felony charges against him, his attorney and the school said.
The 18-year-old Bates was a top prospect out of high school who transferred to Eastern Michigan in August after playing his freshman season at Memphis. He was charged after police found a gun in a car he was driving last month. Defense attorney Steve Haney said the vehicle and the gun didn&rsquo;t belong to Bates.
Bates was &ldquo;immediately reinstated to all athletic and campus activities&rdquo; because of the agreement between prosecutors and Bates&rsquo; attorneys, the school said in a statement, adding that the move was made in accordance with athletic department policies.
Bates was charged with two felonies &mdash; carrying a concealed weapon and &ldquo;altering ID marks&rdquo; &mdash; on Sept. 19 after a traffic stop. Bates failed to stop at an intersection and a search turned up the weapon, the Washtenaw County sheriff&rsquo;s office said. He pleaded not guilty at his probable cause hearing last week.
Bates will plead down to a misdemeanor charge, Haney said. A hearing was scheduled for next Wednesday. Bates also must complete a diversion program to have his record expunged.
Bates attended Eastern Michigan&rsquo;s practice on Thursday, the Detroit Free Press reported.
The 6-foot-9 guard will play for his hometown school after averaging 9.7 points and 3.3 rebounds last season as a freshman at Memphis, where he enrolled after reclassifying to skip a year of high school.
Bates became the first sophomore to win the Gatorade national player of the year award in 2020, beating out Cade Cunningham and Evan Mobley. The Detroit Pistons drafted Cunningham No. 1 overall last year, two spots before Cleveland took Mobley in the draft.
Bates initially committed to playing for Tom Izzo at Michigan State. He later de-committed and signed with Memphis and coach Penny Hardaway. Bates played in 18 games for the Tigers, missing several weeks with a back injury.
In 2019, as a high school freshman, the slender and skilled guard led Ypsilanti Lincoln to a state title and was named Michigan&rsquo;s Division 1 Player of the Year by The Associated Press. His sophomore season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic and he attended Ypsi Prep Academy as a junior, his final year of high school.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) &mdash; Plenty of people have called for NCAA Tournament expansion. Count ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips among them.
Phillips said Wednesday at the ACC Tipoff that &ldquo;it&rsquo;s time to look at&rdquo; expanding the field beyond the 68 teams currently invited to the Big Dance each March.
Phillips believes the NCAA&rsquo;s best tournaments are the ones that feature the most schools. That&rsquo;s part of why he&rsquo;s hopeful of eventual expansion, not just for the men&rsquo;s event but for all NCAA championships.
Increasing the field also brings rewards for those &ldquo;schools that are spending a tremendous amount of resources in sports and not having a chance to access those championships,&rdquo; he said.
Currently, just 68 of 358 men&rsquo;s basketball programs qualify for the men&rsquo;s NCAAs &mdash; 32 conference champions and 36 at-large teams picked by the selection committee. Phillips said the logistics of staging a bigger tournament need to be worked out.
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim has advocated for more teams in the field the past 30 years. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve been knocked down every year I&rsquo;ve brought it up,&rdquo; said the 77-year-old Boeheim. &ldquo;I stopped bringing it up. Everybody thought I was an idiot.&rdquo;
Notre Dame coach Mike Brey projects adding three more First Four pods &mdash; one for each region &mdash; could work and take the field up to 80.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Let&rsquo;s throw three more Daytons in, regionalize it up and play it out, let some more kids get in there,&rdquo; Brey said.
Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton wants to double the field &mdash; and double the experience for athletes who work hard all year for their moment in March. &ldquo;Do you realize how it would be an opportunity for all these youngsters to participate in the NCAA Tournament?&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s the greatest games in history.&rdquo;
BACOT BACK
North Carolina&rsquo;s Armando Bacot could&rsquo;ve easily jumped to the NBA, especially after leading the Tar Heels to the NCAA championship game last season. Instead, the 6-foot-11 senior wanted another run to finish the job.
Bacot, a likely pick for ACC preseason player of the year, was among four Tar Heels who held off going pro in the wake of their 72-69 title-game loss to Kansas in the NCAA Tournament in April. North Carolina was up 40-25 at halftime before the Jayhawks&rsquo; rallied.
For Bacot, it was a difficult outcome that fueled his decision to return. He doesn&rsquo;t spend much time thinking about the NBA, concentrating on improving his game and helping the Tar Heels win.
&ldquo;Going through last year with our ups and downs,&rdquo; Bacot said. &ldquo;Our ups were really high and a lot of fun. Just being able to experience that for a full year was a no-brainer.&rdquo;
PERFECT YOUNG
Virginia Tech coach Mike Young led his Hokies to a surprise ACC Tournament title last March, defeating second-seeded Notre Dame in the quarterfinals, third-seeded North Carolina in the semis and top-seeded Duke, 82-67, for the school&rsquo;s first-ever tournament crown.
That improved Young&rsquo;s record to 6-0 in tournament finals. Young, beginning his fourth season at Virginia Tech, won all five Southern Conference championship games he reached during 16 seasons leading Wofford.
The secret? Don&rsquo;t change anything. &ldquo;We all know what&rsquo;s at stake,&rdquo; Young said. &ldquo;Let&rsquo;s go have a good time, lay our ears back and let it rip.&rdquo;
DUKE INJURY
Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer said prize freshman Dariq Whitehead is progressing well about six weeks into recovery from a foot injury.
Whitehead is a 6-foot-7 forward from Newark, New Jersey, who was rated the country&rsquo;s No. 2 prospect by ESPN this past recruiting season.
Whitehead is entering the next phase of his recovery where he&rsquo;s able to get out on the court more, Scheyer said. The first-year coach can&rsquo;t yet say when Whitehead will be ready to play, &ldquo;but he&rsquo;s progressing in a great way and he&rsquo;s working hard, and I know he&rsquo;s anxious to be out here with these guys practicing every day.&rdquo;

Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner is excited about &mdash; well, everything.
He thinks the ACC is deep and great. His players are smart and hardworking. And his school is a leader in the space industry.
&ldquo;They found water on Mars from Georgia Tech,&rdquo; said Pastner, bragging on 14 Tech grads who&rsquo;ve been to space. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s what&rsquo;s amazing about this school. It&rsquo;s incredible.&rdquo;
Pastner gushed that he thinks North Carolina should be ranked No. 1 nationally to start the season. He also would pick Virginia as the league&rsquo;s best team. &ldquo;I know it sounds crazy when I say this,&rdquo; said Pastner, opening his seventh year with the Yellow Jackets.&nbsp;

From Oct. 4-9 as part of Jr. NBA Week, the NBA will host 25 of the top boys and girls from Jr. NBA&nbsp; leagues across Europe and the Middle East, and the NBA Basketball School in Dubai, at an Elite&nbsp; Training Camp in Abu Dhabi. The athletes, who come from 11 countries and were selected following a&nbsp; Jr. NBA Elite Camp in Rome in May, will participate in training, practices and competitions against the&nbsp; NBA Basketball School from Dubai and the UAE under-18 Men&rsquo;s National Team, as well as life skills&nbsp; programming and cultural activities in the local community.

LONDON AND ABU DHABI &mdash; The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced a series of youth basketball engagement programs that will be hosted in collaboration with the Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks as part of The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2022.&nbsp;
The week of activities, which will include the league&rsquo;s first Jr. NBA Week in the Middle East, will run from Monday, Oct. 3 &ndash; Sunday, Oct. 9 and will reach nearly 2,000 youth, coaches and basketball stakeholders from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and across the Middle East and Europe. Jr. NBA Week will be comprised of youth basketball clinics, camps and showcases focused on teaching the game of basketball, promoting health and wellness, and empowering the next generation of female players and coaches. The events will feature appearances by Hawks and Bucks players and coaches, NBA and WNBA legends, and USA Basketball Head Coach/Coach Director, Youth &amp; Sport Development, Don Showalter.&nbsp;
The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2022 will feature the Hawks and the 2021 NBA champion Bucks playing two preseason games at Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. GST, marking the league&rsquo;s first games in the UAE and the Arabian Gulf. The games are part of a groundbreaking multiyear collaboration between the NBA and the Department of Culture and Tourism &ndash; Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) that earlier this year saw the launch of the first Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League, a youth basketball league for 450 boys and girls ages 11-14 from schools across Abu Dhabi. The collaboration also includes a variety of interactive fan events featuring appearances by current and former NBA players, a series of NBA FIT clinics promoting health and wellness, and an NBA 2K League exhibition event.

On Oct. 3 and 4, Hawks assistant coaches Joe Prunty and Mike Longabardi and Bucks assistant coaches Mike Dunlap and Vince Legarza will each host Coaches Clinics for more than 300 male and female basketball coaches from across the UAE. The clinics will teach coaching techniques and best practices for team and player development at any level.&nbsp;
Milwaukee Bucks Youth Programming&nbsp;

As part of the four-game set, Northern Iowa will face Towson and Tulane will take on George Mason in the afternoon session, while Dayton matches up against Wyoming and NC State will battle Vanderbilt in the evening session. In the afternoon session, Northern Iowa will face Towson at Noon CT and Tulane will take on George Mason at 2:30 p.m., while the evening session will feature Dayton matching up against Wyoming at 7 p.m. and NC State battling Vanderbilt at 9:30 p.m. Television designations will be announced in the coming weeks.

At the helm of Vanderbilt is 18-year NBA veteran Jerry Stackhouse, the former No. 3 overall draft pick and two-time All-Star who appeared in 970 games for eight teams. Wyoming assistant coach Shaun Vandiver is a former first-round pick (25th overall) by the Golden State Warriors in the 1991 NBA Draft. George Mason head coach Kim English was drafted in the 2nd Round (44th overall) of the 2012 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons and Northern Iowa assistant coach Seth Tuttle played for the Miami Heat&rsquo;s Summer League team in 2015.
NBRPA Board Chairman Johnny Davis is a Dayton alum, leading the Flyers in scoring for three consecutive seasons (1973-76) before spending nearly four decades with the NBA as a player, front office executive, assistant and head coach. Additionally, two NBRPA Board Members are NC State alums. Thurl Bailey, who led the Wolfpack in both scoring and rebounding during the team&rsquo;s miracle 1983 NCAA Championship season before embarking on a 13-season NBA career, and Chucky Brown, who led NC State in scoring in 1988 (16.6 ppg) and rebounding in 1989 season (8.8 rpg).
It will be the first matchup between Northern Iowa and Towson and the third between Tulane and George Mason, with the teams splitting the prior two contests. Dayton and Wyoming have also met twice previously, with Dayton winning in December 2004 and Wyoming winning in January 2004. The contest between NC State and Vanderbilt will be the sixth all time, with the Commodores owning a 3-2 edge in the series. Each of the previous three matchups have been neutral site contests, with NC State winning the last matchup in 2018.

CHICAGO &ndash; The National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA) and Intersport announced details for the inaugural Legends of Basketball Showcase, a college basketball quadruple header set for Dec. 17 at the United Center in Chicago.
As part of the four-game set, Northern Iowa will face Towson and Tulane will take on George Mason, while Dayton matches up against Wyoming and NC State will battle Vanderbilt. In the afternoon session, Northern Iowa will face Towson at Noon CT and Tulane will take on George Mason at 2:30 p.m., while the evening session will feature Dayton matching up against Wyoming at 7 p.m. and NC State battling Vanderbilt at 9:30 p.m. Television designations will be announced in the coming weeks.

At the helm of Vanderbilt is 18-year NBA veteran Jerry Stackhouse, the former No. 3 overall draft pick and two-time All-Star who appeared in 970 games for eight teams. Wyoming assistant coach Shaun Vandiver is a former first-round pick (25th overall) by the Golden State Warriors in the 1991 NBA Draft. George Mason head coach Kim English was drafted in the 2nd Round (44th overall) of the 2012 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons and Northern Iowa assistant coach Seth Tuttle played for the Miami Heat&rsquo;s Summer League team in 2015.
NBRPA Board Chairman Johnny Davis is a Dayton alum, leading the Flyers in scoring for three consecutive seasons (1973-76) before spending nearly four decades with the NBA as a player, front office executive, assistant and head coach. Additionally, two NBRPA Board Members are NC State alums. Thurl Bailey, who led the Wolfpack in both scoring and rebounding during the team&rsquo;s miracle 1983 NCAA Championship season before embarking on a 13-season NBA career, and Chucky Brown, who led NC State in scoring in 1988 (16.6 ppg) and rebounding in 1989 season (8.8 rpg).
It will be the first matchup between Northern Iowa and Towson and the third between Tulane and George Mason, with the teams splitting the prior two contests. Dayton and Wyoming have also met twice previously, with Dayton winning in December 2004 and Wyoming winning in January 2004. The contest between NC State and Vanderbilt will be the sixth all time, with the Commodores owning a 3-2 edge in the series. Each of the previous three matchups have been neutral site contests, with NC State winning the last matchup in 2018.
