Russell Westbrook checks off two historic milestones in one game

Veteran star guard Russell Westbrook added another remarkable chapter to his Hall of Fame resume this weekend, accomplishing two major career feats in the same game for the Sacramento Kings.

In Sacramento’s 113-107 win over the Dallas Mavericks, Westbrook not only helped lead the Kings to victory with 21 points and nine assists, but he also moved past Magic Johnson on the NBA’s all-time assists list and recorded his 2,000th career steal – two rare statistical accomplishments achieved in one night.

  • Seventh All-Time in Assists: Westbrook finished the game with his 10,142nd career assist, which moved him past Hall of Famer Magic Johnson for seventh place on the NBA’s all-time assists leaderboard.
  • 2,000 Career Steals: Earlier in the contest, Westbrook recorded a steal that pushed him into an elite club as just the 14th player in league history with 2,000 career steals – another testament to his all-around impact.

At 37 years old, Westbrook continues to defy age and expectations, contributing in multiple facets of the game and climbing historic stat lists few players ever touch. His dual milestone night also underscores his long-standing reputation as one of the most dynamic and versatile guards in NBA history.

Westbrook’s assist milestone reflects his longevity and consistent playmaking excellence. Passing Magic Johnson – widely regarded as one of the greatest point guards ever – proves how deeply Westbrook’s name is now woven into NBA lore. Meanwhile, reaching 2,000 steals highlights his defensive instincts and underscores his ability to impact the game beyond scoring and passing.

While Westbrook’s current role may no longer be that of a perennial All-Star, these achievements demonstrate that he remains a difference-maker and statistical force, even in the later stages of his career.
