The Lakers promised Drummond a starting role to secure his commitment in free agency, according to two people familiar with the situation who were no authorized to discuss it publicly.

ANALYSIS: It had been previously rumored that the Lakers did offer Drummond a starting spot in the lineup to sway him to sign with the defending champs, so this report now confirms it. Towards the end of Lakers first round series against Phoenix, Drummond found himself completely out of the lineup, logging zero minutes in the Lakers series clinching loss in Game 6.

Drummond will enter the 2021 market as an unrestricted free agent.
