Damian Lillard’s top preference to become the next head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers is Los Angeles Lakers assistant Jason Kidd.

“Jason Kidd is the guy I want,” Lillard told Yahoo Sports on Friday night.

Lillard intends to have significant input on the next hire, sources said.

ANALYSIS: Lillard also told Shams Charania and Jason Quick of The Athletic that he preferred either Kidd or Chauncey Billups, both of who are former NBA star point guards. The Trail Blazers parted ways with Terry Stotts yesterday after losing in the first round to the Denver Nuggets.

Kidd is currently an assistant on the Los Angeles Lakers' staff, while Billups is an assistant with the Clippers.
