The Paris 2024 Olympic Games Men’s Basketball Tournament is now set as teams gun for that coveted Olympic gold medal.
As one of the flagship events in the Olympics, the field is set to arguably the deepest talent pool in the history of the sport, with teams sending their best of the best.
After four teams (Brazil, Greece, Puerto Rico, and Spain) qualified via the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, here’s how the pool looks and its respective groups.

Which match-ups from the preliminary round of the men’s tournament are you most excited about? pic.twitter.com/QTrKmosMQI
In Group A are Australia, Canada, FIBA OQT winners Greece and Spain. This group is shaping up to be the ‘group of death’ in this iteration of the games with multiple NBA talents playing for each team.
Comprising Group B are FIBA World Champions Germany, hosts France, Japan, and FIBA OQT winner Brazil. This figures to be a romp for the European superpowers with the sheer level of NBA talent they will have over their Asian and South American counterparts but they should not be counted out that easily.
Finally, Group C consists of four-time Olympic gold medallists USA, European basketball powerhouse Serbia led by NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, FIBA OQT winners Puerto Rico, and Olympic debutants South Sudan. The USA should be the overwhelming favorites here with the best NBA players banding up together for one purpose but expect to see a fight coming from Jokic and Serbia and underrated teams in Puerto Rico and South Sudan.
