Lakers, Clippers voted to cancel NBA playoffs

On Wednesday evening, NBA players met to discuss whether they should continue playing in the bubble following the shooting of Jacob Blake. Hours earlier, the Milwaukee Bucks boycotted their playoff game against the Orlando Magic, leading the NBA to postpone Wednesday's slate of games.

At the meeting, the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers voted to cancel the remainder of the postseason, according to multiple reports. Jeff Zillgitt and Heather Tucker of USA TODAY Sports reported some details:

"The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers were against finishing the NBA restart, two people familiar with Wednesday night’s players meeting told USA TODAY Sports.

"NBA players and coaches met for more than two hours to discuss next steps... Some players have said they feel disconnected from family and friends, and they are struggling in the confined format. They discussed what they want to do in the wake of another police shooting of a Black person — this time in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where police shot Jacob Blake, a Black man, in the back seven times on Sunday.

"In the meeting, Lakers star LeBron James never said he didn't want to play but that he did want to hear from owners on how they can help the players enact the change they want to see, a person told USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity."

James got frustrated and eventually walked out of the meeting, and players from the Lakers and Clippers followed him, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Aside from the Lakers and Clippers, every other team voted to continue the playoffs, per Charania.

The players are set to meet again on Thursday, and the NBA's Board of Governors is meeting as well.
