The NBA Board of Governors has approved the sale of the controlling interest in the Dallas Mavericks from Mark Cuban to the families of Dr. Miriam Adelson and Sivan and Patrick Dumont.
Mr. Dumont, President and Chief Operating Officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., will serve as the Mavericks’ Governor. The transaction is expected to close this week.
Cuban still has shares in the team and will reportedly still be in charge of basketball operations. In 2000, Cuban purchased the Mavericks for $285 million. This sale is reportedly worth around $3.5 billion.
The Mavericks are currently 18-12, which is the fifth-best record in the Western Conference. Led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Dallas boasts the NBA's seventh-best offense (scoring 115.7 points per 100 possessions).
