Germany has claimed the EuroBasket 2025 crown, defeating Turkey 88-83 in a pulsating final to win the championship for the first time since 1993. Germany’s victory caps off a perfect 9-0 run through the tournament, showcasing their dominance and chemistry.
The final was tightly contested from tip-off to the closing seconds. Turkey came out strong and led by six at halftime, riding the performances of Alperen Sengun and Cedi Osman.
Germany responded in the third quarter, stringing together runs and tightening up defensively. Isaac Bonga made several key plays in the fourth quarter, including a huge offensive rebound when Turkey seemed ready to pull away.
With under 20 seconds left, point guard Dennis Schroder drained a pull-up jumper, giving Germany a narrow lead. Schroder nailed two baskets in the clutch, highlighting his leadership and importance to the team. Turkey had a chance to reply, but Sengun’s three-pointer in the final possession rimmed out. Germany then sealed the win with Schroder yet again, sinking two clutch free throws.
Schroder was named tournament MVP and was named to the all-star five – and with good reason – as he stepped up when it mattered most, especially in those final moments.
Sengun once again proved why he is among the best international bigs right now, filling the stat sheet and keeping Turkey in the game until the last few possessions.
Isaac Bonga was a difference-maker down the stretch for Germany, including hustle plays and defense, especially during Turkey’s runs, while Franz Wagner did his usual scoring routine for Germany as he did all tournament long to earn his spot in the all-star five.
For Germany, this win is monumental. It’s their second EuroBasket title ever and their first in 32 years. They now hold both the FIBA World Cup (2023) and EuroBasket as champion.
Turkey gets the silver, their first finals appearance since 2001. Though they came up short, their run – powered by Şengün’s excellence – it boosts their status in European basketball as one of the perennial contenders for years to come.
