Cam Thomas signs with Bucks after being waived by Nets

Free-agent guard Cam Thomas has agreed to a contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, setting up a fresh chapter for the 24-year-old scoring guard after being waived by the Brooklyn Nets shortly after the 2026 NBA trade deadline, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Thomas, who averaged 15.6 points, 3.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds this season over 24 games before dealing with hamstring issues, became an unrestricted free agent after Brooklyn cut him when no trade materialized before the deadline.

Milwaukee moved quickly to secure Thomas, seeing an opportunity to add an explosive scorer to its rotation for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign. Over the past three seasons, Thomas has averaged 21.4 points per game, showcasing lethal scoring ability – particularly in his early years with the Nets – and the potential to provide instant offense for a Bucks team still trying to climb into play-in contention.

After agreeing to terms, Thomas explained why he chose Milwaukee: “I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me and they told me they’ve been interested for years now,” he said in comments to Marc J. Spears. “I’m just hoping to meet everybody, get to know everybody and contribute as soon as possible.”

For the Bucks, adding Thomas even on a short-term deal gives coach Doc Rivers another scoring option alongside stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and key backcourt pieces such as Ryan Rollins and Kevin Porter Jr. It’s a low-risk move that could pay off offensively if the young guard adapts well to his new role and finds efficiency with Milwaukee’s spacing and playmaking.

After a split with Brooklyn, Cam Thomas gets a fresh opportunity in Milwaukee – a chance to re-establish himself as a dynamic scorer in a contender’s rotation and potentially revive his free-agency stock ahead of the summer.
