The Chicago Bulls have reached an agreement with point guard Lonzo Ball on a two-year, $20 million contract extension, as reported by NBA reporters Shams Charania and Chris Haynes.
The deal, accordingly, includes a club/team option for the second year.
Ball, 27, returned to action this season after missing over two years due to multiple knee surgeries. He made his season debut in October but was sidelined for 15 games due to a sprained right wrist. Since rejoining the starting lineup in late January, Ball has averaged 9.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists over eight consecutive starts. Overall, he has contributed 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 30 games this season.
This extension comes amid trade rumors surrounding Ball. Notably, the new contract structure could either make him a more attractive asset in potential trade discussions or a nice piece for the rebuilding Bulls squad on a relatively cheap contract.
Nevertheless, this is a feel-good moment for Ball after making a successful and productive return this season after being away from the game for two whole seasons due to a nagging knee injury.
