Houston Rockets superstar Kevin Durant added another historic milestone to his Hall of Fame resume on Sunday night, moving into sixth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list by passing Dirk Nowitzki during Houston’s 119-110 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Durant’s achievement marks the latest chapter in one of the most prolific scoring careers in league history.
Durant needed 17 points to eclipse Nowitzki’s total of 31,560 career points, and he finished the night with 18 points, securing the milestone with a free throw late in the fourth quarter. The 15-time All-Star now has 31,562 career points and trails only five legends on the all-time scoring list: LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.
Earlier in the season, Durant also passed Wilt Chamberlain to claim seventh place on the scoring list – another testament to his sustained excellence and longevity in the league.
In a postgame video tribute, Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki – whom Durant has long called one of his idols – congratulated KD and spoke about his remarkable scoring ability, describing him as “one of the purest, smoothest scorers this game has ever seen.”
At 37 years old and in his 18th NBA season, Durant continues to produce at an elite level, averaging over 26 points per game and showing he remains one of the league’s most dangerous offensive weapons. With the next milestone up his sights – passing Michael Jordan for fifth all-time scoring – Durant’s climb up the historic leaderboard isn’t done yet.
