After suffering a subluxation of his right shoulder during Saturday's training session, Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant underwent an MRI that revealed a torn labrum, the team announced today.
Morant will undergo season-ending surgery and is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The Grizzlies were playing their best basketball of the season since Morant returned from his 25-game suspension. They were 6-3 with Morant in the linup, and he was averaging 25.1 points, 8.1 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 threes while shooting 47.1% from the field.
Memphis currently has the third-worst record in the Western Conference (13-23) and they are likely headed to the lottery in the 2024 NBA Draft.
This season, Morant is earning $34,005,250 and he's under contract with the Grizzlies through the 2027-28 campaign.
