Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday is the recipient of the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year award, the NBA announced today. This honor recognizes the player who's deemed the best teammate based on his selfless play, leadership and dedicaton to the team.
This is Holiday's third time winning the Teammate of the Year award, as he also won it last season and in 2019-20. The award has been around for a decade, as it was first handed out in the 2012-13 season.
Unlike the other end-of-season awards, this honor is voted on by NBA players, who choose the winner from a list of 12 finalists (six from each conference) selected by a panel of team executives. Nearly 400 NBA players voted on this award.
Holiday received 57 first-place votes and 1,359 total voting points. Brooklyn Nets wing Mikal Bridges was the runner-up, with 39 first-place votes and 1,190 total voting points.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (42 first-place votes, 1,117 total points), New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose (36 first-place votes, 1,097 total points) and Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem (52 first-place votes, 1,023 total points) rounded out the top-five.

The Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year award is named for Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, whose storied friendship transcended their Hall-of-Fame accomplishments. Twyman and Stokes were teammates on the Rochester/Cincinnati Royals from 1955-58. In the last game of the 1957-58 regular season, Stokes sustained an injury that led to him falling into a coma days later and becoming permanently paralyzed. He was diagnosed with post-traumatic encephalopathy, a brain injury that damaged his motor-control center. Stokes was supported for the rest of his life by Twyman, who became his legal guardian and advocate.
Twyman helped organize the NBA&rsquo;s Maurice Stokes Memorial Basketball Game, which raised funds for Stokes&rsquo; medical care and, after Stokes&rsquo; death in 1970 at age 36, for other players in need. In 2004, after years of lobbying by Twyman, Stokes was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Twyman, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1983, died in 2012.

Nobody ever finished an NBA playoff game with at least 30 points, 17 rebounds and 17 assists.
That is, until Nikola Jokic&nbsp;<a class="paragraph-link" href="https://apnews.com/article/nuggets-suns-booker-durant-jokic-0469ef36ee77fe2eddb4dad8bce202b0">did it on Friday.</a>
Nobody ever finished an NBA playoff game with 53 points and 11 assists, either.
That is, until Nikola Jokic&nbsp;<a class="paragraph-link" href="https://apnews.com/article/nuggets-suns-booker-durant-jokic-nba-playoffs-2023-ecf1a5cf8c9b8dc1f4a25bb193c0cdd8">did it on Sunday.</a>
And the Denver Nuggets went 0-2 in those games anyway, those stat lines &mdash; and some incredible numbers from Devin Booker, too &mdash; mostly overshadowed by Jokic getting into a bit of a thorny situation during Game 4&nbsp;<a class="paragraph-link" href="https://apnews.com/article/nuggets-suns-jokic-ishbia-technical-a2c83b6bc613666925579917ddbaecf9">with a fan who just happened to be Mat Ishbia,</a>&nbsp;the new owner of the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns-Nuggets Western Conference semifinal series is tied at 2-2, in large part because Booker cannot miss. He shot 20 for 25 in Game 3, 14 for 18 in Game 4 &mdash; the first player in NBA playoff history to shoot that well in back-to-back games while taking that many shots.
Booker leads the playoffs with a 36.8-point scoring average, and he&rsquo;s on pace to be the first player to shoot 60% from the field, 50% from 3-point range and 85% from the foul line (while taking at least 50 field goal attempts) during a postseason.
WHAT'S NEXT?

The first one-point game of the East playoffs was Sunday, when Philadelphia blew a 15-point lead late in the third, rallied from five points down late in regulation&nbsp;<a class="paragraph-link" href="https://apnews.com/article/nba-playoffs-2023-76ers-celtics-harden-embiid-16c5397f9dbc5284ca8c4082ada3a036">and topped Boston 116-115 in overtime</a>&nbsp;&mdash; after James Harden gave the 76ers the lead, and Marcus Smart&rsquo;s gamewinner for the Celtics came just a smidge too late.
It was the seventh one-point playoff game in Celtics vs. Sixers history; Philadelphia has won four of those seven, though one of those victories came in 1954 when the franchise was in Syracuse.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) &ndash; Kevin Durant scored 35 points and the Phoenix Suns held off the Oklahoma City Thunder 128-118 on Sunday night for their fifth straight victory.
Durant &ndash; once a hero in Oklahoma City after leading the Thunder to the 2012 NBA Finals, but roundly booed nearly every time he touched the ball Sunday &ndash; scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, helping Phoenix hold the lead after Oklahoma City cut a 15-point deficit to three. The Suns are 6-0 with Durant in the lineup.
Devin Booker added 22 points and 10 assists for Phoenix, which shot 56.8% from the field to match its season high. Deandre Ayton had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Chris Paul had 16 points and eight assists. Phoenix remained fourth in the Western Conference standings.
Oklahoma City, which is battling for a spot in the NBA&rsquo;s play-in tournament, lost for the third time in its last four games despite 39 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Thunder remained in the final play-in spot &ndash; 10th &ndash; a game ahead of the Dallas Mavericks, who lost to the Atlanta Hawks in overtime.
The Thunder led Phoenix seven points in the first quarter and were tied 27-27 entering the second quarter, but Oklahoma City surrendered a 42-point second quarter, matching the highest total by any opponent this season.
A 3-pointer by Isaiah Joe with 5:19 left pulled Oklahoma City to 109-106, but Durant hit a 3-pointer and Ayton followed with a put-back to make it 114-106 with 4:33 left. The Thunder came no closer than five points after that.
HONOR AND GRATITUDE
Phoenix coach Monty Williams was an assistant for the Thunder on Feb. 10, 2016, when his wife, Ingrid, died in a traffic accident in Oklahoma City.
After his pregame news conference Sunday, Williams took time to thank members of the Thunder organization &ndash; including general manager Sam Presti and Ayana Lawson, the team&rsquo;s vice president of community and lifestyle services &ndash; for their continued support.
&ldquo;We lost my wife here, and this city, and in particular, this organization, wrapped their arms around me and my family and they continue to do so, led by Sam Presti, the ownership here and Ayana Lawson,&rdquo; Williams said. &ldquo;Today would have been my wife&rsquo;s birthday and they chose to honor my wife today by not allowing anybody to sit in her seats.
&ldquo;When I found out this morning, it really messed me up because it really speaks to how blessed I am to do what I do and work for the people I work for and other people that I know and how much they care. &hellip; For them to do that today really speaks to this organization and this city.&rdquo;

DALLAS (AP) &mdash; Luka Doncic scored 33 points, his seventh consecutive game of at least 30 to begin the season, reserve Christian Wood added 17 of his 21 in the second half and the Dallas Mavericks beat the Utah Jazz 103-100 on Wednesday night.
Doncic also had 11 assists while becoming the third NBA player to score 30 or more points in his team&rsquo;s first seven games of the season, the first since Wilt Chamberlain in 1962-63.
When asked to reflect on the streak, Doncic rubbed his beard and hesitated before answering.
&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know. I&rsquo;m trying to win games,&rdquo; Doncic said. &ldquo;The player that scores more, you&rsquo;re going to win the game. I think today was one of the best games that I&rsquo;ve played. Not forcing a lot. Sharing the ball.
&ldquo;I always hear Wilt Chamberlain, so he&rsquo;s always there. It&rsquo;s great. I just wished to play in the NBA. This is really a dream for me. Couldn&rsquo;t be happier just to play basketball, to do my job, and that&rsquo;s it.&rdquo;
Chamberlain also did it beginning 1959-60, and Jack Twyman did it that same season.
The most recent player to score 30 or more in six straight was Michael Jordan in 1986-87.
&ldquo;I think it&rsquo;s special when you talk about M.J. and Wilt,&rdquo; Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s rare air. We get to see that on a nightly basis, so that&rsquo;s pretty cool. A 23-year-old kid that&rsquo;s at this level.
&ldquo;It just shows the focus that he has. He&rsquo;s carrying the team and putting the team in position to win.&rdquo;
First-year Jazz coach Will Hardy said of Doncic: &ldquo;His body control, his strength, his ball-handling, his size makes him a really tough matchup. And I think that&rsquo;s why every night when you watch him play and look at the box score, his stats are pretty alarming if you&rsquo;re one of the other teams.&rdquo;
The Mavericks rallied from a 15-point, third-quarter deficit to take the lead for good at 86-84 on Josh Green&rsquo;s 3-pointer from the left corner with 7:48 to play.
Reggie Bullock&rsquo;s 3-pointer from the left corner with 35 seconds left &mdash; his only points of the game &mdash; gave Dallas a 103-98 lead. Bullock missed his previous three shots, all from behind the arc.
&ldquo;It just shows the trust that his teammates and the coaches, everyone, has in Reggie,&rdquo; Kidd said.
Jordan Clarkson scored 22 points and had a season-high eight assists for the Jazz, but his 3 from the left corner at the buzzer fell short.
The Mavericks (4-3) have their first winning streak of the season at two games.
The Jazz (6-3) came in on a two-game winning streak, surprising many after trading away All-Stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell during the offseason from the team that lost to Dallas 4-2 in the first round of last season&rsquo;s playoffs.

Another 30-point game by Luka Doncic leads Mavericks past Jazz

CLEVELAND (AP) — With a large, loud contingent of Slovenia fans on hand, Luka Doncic wanted to give his countrymen a show.
The Cavaliers couldn't stop it.
“When all the people come to see you, you want to put on a show," Doncic said.
He didn't disappoint.
Doncic scored 35 points, added 13 assists and just missed another triple-double, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 120-112 win on Wednesday night over the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were without star rookie forward Evan Mobley.
Dorian Finney-Smith added a career-high 28 points — many of them off passes from Doncic — for Dallas, which came in fourth in the Western Conference and locked up one of the top six playoff spots.
Doncic scored 20 with ease in the third, when the Mavericks took control by outscoring the Cavaliers 39-22.
With Cleveland still hanging around in the fourth, the do-it-all All-Star forward, who finished one rebound short of his second triple-double in two nights, put the Cavs away with a deep, dagger 3.
“We talked about there being a large Slovenian contingent in Cleveland on the plane,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. "He wanted to put on a good show and came to work. He comes to work every night.
“He knew when to pass the ball and when to attack. Luka will have two (guys) on the ball and he trusts his teammates to make plays.”
Caris LeVert had his best game with Cleveland, scoring 32 points. Darius Garland added 25 points and 10 assists for the Cavs, who have dropped four of five and are trying to hang onto a home game in the play-in tournament amid some major injuries.
Mobley, one of the Rookie of the Year frontrunners, missed the game with a sprained ankle suffered Monday night and will miss at least two more.
One of the game's most complete players, Doncic dominated in the third to help the Mavericks erase a six-point halftime deficit and take an 11-point lead into the fourth.
Doncic did it almost effortlessly as the Cavs couldn't figure out how to stop him from splitting high screens and driving down the lane for either a short bank shot or an assist to an open teammate.
Dallas closed the third with a 15-2 run, highlighted by Doncic feeding Finney-Smith with a behind-the-back pass for a 3-pointer.
“He does a great job of playing at the right tempo and the right speed," Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff said of Doncic. “Tonight it was a pick your poison because his teammates were making shots. He does a great job of finding them and setting them up.”
“He's a wizard with the ball in his hands.”
Mobley's loss is a huge blow at the worst possible time for the Cavs. He will not travel to Atlanta and New York in the next few days so he can get more treatment and hopefully be back for the final few games.
Bickerstaff said Mobley's not in a walking boot, perhaps an encouraging sign the injury isn't long-term.
The Cavs have been forced to maneuver around injuries all season, and because of that Bickerstaff was confident his players would respond.
“It's a test of character and that our guys have passed time and time again,” he said. “Our guys don't quit.”
Another positive for Cleveland was LeVert, who has struggled with his role and confidence since coming to the Cavs in a deadline trade.
“This is who Caris is,” Bickerstaff said. “It was just a matter of time.”

TEAM PLAYERS
Cavs forward Kevin Love and Mavs center Boban Marjanovic are among the 12 finalists for Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award.
A year ago, it would have been impossible to imagine Love being considered. He was frustrated and vented toward teammates on the floor more than once. But he’s changed and his turnaround has had a major impact on Cleveland’s success.
“He’s a guy who has truly been supportive of the guy (Mobley) he had to pass the torch to, and in sports that’s not always the case,” Bickerstaff said. “Not too many people at his level are willing to sacrifice the way he has."
As for the 7-foot-4 Marjanovic, Kidd said he’s never seen the big man have a bad day.
“I hope he wins,” Kidd said, “because he deserves it.”
NEW JERSEY (PATCH)
The Cavaliers are making a subtle but strong change to their jerseys for next season. The team expanded its partnership with Cleveland Cliffs and will wear the local steel company’s logo. It will replace Goodyear’s iconic Wingfoot logo, which the club has had for five seasons.

Denver advanced to the Western Conference semifinals for the third straight season.
Damian Lillard finished with 28 points and 13 assists for the sixth-seeded Blazers. They led by 14 points in the third quarter but couldn't stave off elimination.
Monte Morris hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to close Denver to 101-98 heading into the last period. Jokic hit a 3-pointer to put Denver ahead 108-106 and Denver stretched it to 117-108 on Austin Rivers' 3 with 3:52 left.
Portland tired to catch up, getting to 121-115 on CJ McCollum's layup, but Aaron Gordon hit a 3-pointer that all but sealed it for Denver with less than a minute to go.
The Nuggets took a 3-2 lead in the series with a 147-140 double overtime victory in Denver on Tuesday night. It spoiled Lillard's epic playoff performance: He had 55 points, including 12 3-pointers, and 10 assists. It was the most 3-pointers ever in a playoff game.
The Blazers needed big man Jusuf Nurkic to stay out of foul trouble. Tasked with defending Jokic, he fouled out in three of the first five games.
Nurkic didn't have a foul in the first half, but then had four quick fouls in the third quarter and had to head to the bench.
Porter had six 3-pointers in the first quarter alone, tying an NBA playoff record for most 3s a quarter.
Lillard hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Blazers a 68-61 lead at the half. He raised his arms to encourage the crowd as he headed off the floor.

Damian Lillard was honored before the game as the NBA's Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year award. The league's players vote to recognize &ldquo;selfless play, on- and off-court leadership as a mentor and role model to other NBA players, and commitment and dedication to team.&rdquo; Carmelo Anthony and CJ McCollum presented Lillard with the award.

The award, presented annually since the 2012-13 season, recognizes the player deemed the best teammate based on selfless play, on- and off-court leadership as a mentor and role model to other NBA players, and commitment and dedication to team.
More than 250 NBA players submitted their votes for the 2019-20 Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award through confidential balloting conducted by the league office.&nbsp; NBA players determined the winner from among the 12 nominees who were selected by a panel of league executives.
Holiday received 53 of 267 first-place votes and finished with 1,041 total points.&nbsp; Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris (806 points; 48 first-place votes) and Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Korver (796 points; 26 first-place votes) finished in second and third place, respectively.&nbsp; Players were awarded 10 points for each first-place vote, seven points for each second-place vote, five points for each third-place vote, three points for each fourth-place vote and one point for each fifth-place vote.
In addition to Holiday, Harris and Korver, the other finalists were Dallas Mavericks guard J.J. Barea, Denver Nuggets forward Torrey Craig, Los Angeles Lakers forward Jared Dudley, Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem, Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward, Toronto Raptors forward-center Serge Ibaka, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard, San Antonio Spurs guard Patty Mills and Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner.
Holiday, 30, has spent the last seven seasons with New Orleans after playing his first four seasons with Philadelphia.&nbsp; The 6-3 guard was selected as an NBA All-Star in the 2012-13 season and named to the NBA All-Defensive Team in 2017-18 and 2018-19.&nbsp; In the 2019-20 season, he averaged 19.1 points, 6.7 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.62 steals in 61 games across regular-season games and seeding games.&nbsp;&nbsp;
In July, Holiday announced that he would use the remainder of his 2019-20 season salary to start a social justice fund with his wife, Lauren, a former player for the U.S. Women&rsquo;s National Soccer Team.&nbsp; The Jrue and Lauren Holiday Social Justice Impact Fund is designed to address socioeconomic inequalities across communities in New Orleans, the Los Angeles area and Indianapolis.&nbsp; Jrue and Lauren are Los Angeles and Indianapolis natives, respectively, and Jrue&rsquo;s two brothers, Aaron and Justin, both play for the Pacers.
The Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award is named for Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, whose storied friendship transcended their Hall of Fame accomplishments.&nbsp; Twyman and Stokes were teammates on the Rochester/Cincinnati Royals from 1955-58.&nbsp; In the last game of the 1957-58 regular season, Stokes sustained an injury that led to his falling into a coma days later and becoming permanently paralyzed.&nbsp; He was diagnosed with post-traumatic encephalopathy, a brain injury that damaged his motor-control center.&nbsp; Stokes was supported for the rest of his life by Twyman, who became his legal guardian and advocate.
Twyman helped organize the NBA&rsquo;s Maurice Stokes Memorial Basketball Game, which raised funds for Stokes&rsquo; medical care and, after Stokes&rsquo; death in 1970 at age 36, for other players in need.&nbsp; In 2004, after years of lobbying by Twyman, Stokes was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.&nbsp; Twyman, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1983, died in 2012.
