LeBron James’ Old Video Trolling Knicks Fans Goes Viral as New York Takes 2-0 NBA Finals Lead

Almost a year ago today, LeBron James might have had a moment of clairvoyance. During a special episode of the 'Mind the Game' podcast, he shared a light-hearted moment with New York Knicks fans who, at the time, were reeling from a loss in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers.

James decided to have a bit of fun with the Knicks fans. During the live show of his and Steve Nash's podcast at the Fanatics Fest in New York City in 2025, he decided to address that fanbase directly. "Knicks fans, y'all good?" James called out to the crowd.

In response, a chorus of affirming replies could be heard.

The 41-year-old star then followed it up by asking, "Y'all going to the Finals next year?"

The Knicks fans in attendance responded with a loud, collective yes.

At the time, New York legitimately could have been a Finals team. They lost Game 1 of the 2025 ECF in overtime, falling 138–135 at Madison Square Garden despite a 43-point effort from Jalen Brunson. After dropping Game 2, they overcame a 20-point deficit on the road to win Game 3, sparked by a massive 20-point fourth-quarter surge from Karl-Anthony Towns.

Facing elimination in Game 5, the night was theirs from start to finish as they dominated Indiana 111–94 on their home floor. In Game 6, though, they were completely outclassed by the Pacers, who won 125-108 to take the Pacers to the Finals.

But the crowd that responded to James' question believed they'd be back, and boy, were they right. They steamrolled past the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 in the ECF to set up their first Finals appearance since 1999.

This year, Jalen Brunson and the Knicks have bounced back in a big way. They have taken a 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. They also have a chance to tie the longest winning streak in postseason history.

Following Game 2, the Knicks have won 13 straight games. They have not lost since Game 3 against the Atlanta Hawks in Round 1 of the playoffs.

If they win their next two games to sweep the Spurs, they'll be winners of 15 straight. That's the same number of consecutive wins the Golden State Warriors had in 2017 on their way to a title.

The only difference being that the Warriors didn't lose a single game in the first three rounds. Their only loss came at the hands of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of that year's NBA Finals.

Aside from predicting the Knicks' trip to the Finals, James was also quite complimentary of how their offense has shifted in the playoffs.

LeBron James Had High Praise for the Knicks' Offense Before the Finals

In a late-May episode of Mind the Game, before the NBA Finals tipped off, LeBron James shared his thoughts on the Knicks with Nash and their listeners.

James lauded the team for shifting their offensive focus to make Karl-Anthony Towns the guy to set things up. According to him, defenses can no longer think of just defending Brunson in isolation or in pick-and-rolls.

With diversified offensive sets, James said the Knicks free up more of their guys to become threats on offense. Afterward, he also credited the Knicks' depth, specifically naming Miles McBride, Landry Shamet, and Mitchell Robinson.

He and Nash also focused on Josh Hart's impact. They highlighted Hart's effort and hustle, saying the team wins because of his willingness to do the dirty work that doesn't necessarily show up in the box score.

So far in the Finals, KAT and Hart have had a significant impact. Towns has been instrumental in containing Victor Wembanyama while also dominating on the glass and providing a major offensive spark. Through the first two games of the series, he is averaging 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while shooting 53.8% from the field.

Meanwhile, Hart might not be scoring much, but his rebounding (10.5 RPG), playmaking (5.0 APG), and defense have been vital in securing their 2-0 lead

Landry Shamet has also been a factor, serving as a sparkplug on offense, keeping the momentum going or energizing the team when he's subbed in.
