“They Are Not Waiting for Another Domino”: Shams Charania Shuts Down Anthony Davis Rumors in LeBron James Free Agency Talk

Rumors of LeBron James and Anthony Davis reuniting have begun circulating once again. Previously, we nearly saw their reunion when the Golden State Warriors intended to trade for Davis as leverage to bring James to the team. However, after the Warriors realized that AD isn't a good investment, the duo's comeback became unlikely.

Fast forward to the present day, and there have been reports that James is waiting for a team to acquire Davis via trade before deciding where he wants to play. NBA insider Shams Charania shut down those rumors and provided clarity on the situation. Charania noted that LeBron has no intention of waiting for AD.

"The Warriors conversation (to trade for Anthony Davis), that was definitely alive right before free agency started," Charania said on The Pat McAfee Show. "Those conversations with AD have gone nowhere for the Warriors. I don't sense any direction that they're picking back up. I don't think that's ever going to be a conversation."

"Now that we're 20 days (into free agency), there's nothing left (regarding Anthony Davis going to the Warriors)," Charania added. "The teams are the teams, the information is the information, LeBron has everything he needs to make a decision. ... LeBron James, his agent Rich Paul, that inner circle, they are not waiting for another domino right now. They’re not waiting for Anthony Davis to get traded."

As of this writing, we're currently waiting for James' decision regarding which team he wants to play for. The teams have been narrowed down to five. These include the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Golden State Warriors.

NBA Insider Reports Wizards Have No Intention of Trading Anthony Davis

The last time we saw Anthony Davis play in an NBA game was back in January. He was still playing for the Dallas Mavericks at the time. Because of his constant injuries, the Mavericks moved on from him, trading Davis to the Washington Wizards in a blockbuster eight-player deal, receiving Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, and a package of draft picks in return.

Since getting traded, Davis has yet to suit up for the Wizards. This stirred up a lot of concerns among fans. Due to his inconsitencies to stay healthy, many assumed that Washington was bound to get rid of AD.

However, it appears that the Wizards intend to keep their acquisition heading into the 2026-27 season, though the terms of that commitment remain very much in question.

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Wizards are looking at a long-term future with Davis. Siegel noted that Washington won't trade AD this summer and is considering a contract extension when he becomes eligible.

"The Wizards are not interested in trading him whatsoever," Siegel reported. "They want to agree to some type of long-term deal with AD ... Anthony Davis wants a max extension, but it’s not gonna happen ... Maybe a 2-3 year extension is on the table."

With that in mind, it appears that Wizards fans are in for a treat this coming 2026-27 season. Not only do they have the duo of Davis and Trae Young, but they also have the No. 1 pick of the 2026 draft, AJ Dybantsa.

While it's unlikely to translate into contention for the title next season, we can anticipate a much better finish to their campaign compared to their last few years in the league.
