The Denver Nuggets and the Oklahoma City Thunder have finished their respective series after securing wins on the Los Angeles Lakers and the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night on Day 10 of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. The top two seeds in the West dispatched their opponents in dominating fashion, winning their series on 4-0 and 4-1 cards. The Celtics move a win away from avenging last year&rsquo;s Eastern Conference Finals loss against the Miami Heat with two huge wins on the road as they head back home to Boston.

The Minnesota Timberwolves officially became the first team to punch a ticket to the second round after sweeping the Phoenix Suns.

2024 NBA Playoffs Day 9 Recap: Timberwolves sweep Suns; Knicks, Pacers build commanding leads

Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault has been named the 2023-2024 Kia NBA Coach of the Year, the league announced Sunday night.
Daigneault, 39, dominated the coach of the year race, including finalists Jamahl Mosley of the Orlando Magic and Chris Finch of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Daigneault finished with a total of 473 points with 89 1st place votes (equivalent to five points), 9 2nd place votes (three points), and 1 3rd place votes (one point). Mosley came in distant second with 158 points while Finch came in at third with 105 total points.
Daigneault and the Thunder exceeded expectations this season after taking the team to the West&rsquo;s no.1 seed despite being the second youngest team in the league. Nobody expected the Thunder to be this good early already, and with that Daigneault rightfully deserves to win the award.
The 39-year-old coach becomes the second Thunder coach to win the award, joining Scott Brooks who won in 2009-2010. Under Daigneault, the Thunder went 57-25 in the regular season and tied for the best record in the Western Conference, earning the No. 1 playoff seed. Oklahoma City became the youngest team (weighted by playing time) to finish with the best record (or tied for the best) in its conference since 1970-71, the first NBA season with Eastern and Western conferences.
The Thunder, who were the 10-seed last season, made a 17-win improvement (40-42) to secure a playoff berth for the first time in four years.

The Denver Nuggets moved one win away from sweeping their series after winning yet again vs the Los Angeles Lakers on Day 6 of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. The Nuggets have now won 11-straight against the Lakers dating back to the Western Conference Finals last playoffs, including a sweep during the regular season. Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is the 2023-2024 Kia NBA Clutch Player of the Year, the league announced Thursday night.
Curry, 36, beat the field of nominees and finalists including the Chicago Bulls&rsquo; DeMar DeRozan and Oklahoma City Thunder&rsquo;s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Curry finished with a total of 298 points with 45 1st place votes (equivalent to five points), 18 2nd place votes (three points), and 19 3rd place votes (one point). DeRozan had a total of 272 points to finish at second place while Gilgeous-Alexander came in at third with 160 total points.
The 36-year-old Curry continues to marvel at the people around the league and the world with his superstar-level play at his age. During the 2023-2024 season, Curry scored an NBA-high 189 points in clutch situations, which are defined as possessions in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the score is within five points. He also led the league in clutch field goals made (59) and clutch three-pointers made (32).
The 6-foot-3 point guard shot 49.6% from the field, 45.7% from three-point range, and 95.1% from the free throw line in clutch time with the Warriors playing the most clutch teams (48) than any other team in the league.
Curry, whose Warriors were booted out early in the play-in tournament by the Sacramento Kings, aims to add another hardware to his long list of accolades when he plays for the USA Basketball National Team this summer at the Paris Olympics.

Minnesota Timberwolves&rsquo; center/forward Naz Reid took home the 2023-2024 Kia NBA Sixth Man of the Year, the league announced Wednesday night.
Reid, 24, won the award by the closest of margins over the Sacramento Kings&rsquo; Malik Monk. Reid finished with a total of 352 points with 45 1st place votes (equivalent to five points), 39 2nd place votes (three points), and 10 3rd place votes (one point). Monk had 43 1st place votes and had the same 2nd and 3rd place votes, making up 342 total points and just 10 points shy of Reid.
Reid becomes the 1st Timberwolf ever to win the award and the third undrafted player in history, joining John Starks in 1996 and Darrell Armstrong in 1998.&nbsp; Reid averaged 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists for the 56-26 Minnesota, which finished third overall in the West.
The 6-foot-10 big guy who moves like a guard and has guard-like skills has set career highs in points and rebounds per game this season. Reid also made 169 total three-pointers in the season exceeding his total from the previous two seasons combined (132), shooting a career-high 41.4% from three-point range.
During a 13-game stretch this season when the Timberwolves went 10-3 from March 16-April 10, Reid started 12 of the 13 games for an injured Karl-Anthony Towns, averaging 17.1 points on 45.4% shooting, including 41.4% from deep, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. His 17.1 points per game during that stretch were the second-most PPG for the Wolves (Anthony Edwards, 25.4 ppg).

As the Phoenix Suns fell into a 0-2 hole against the Minnesota Timberwolves, star guard Devin Booker remains steadfast as their team faces an uphill climb from here on out.

Booker only scored 20 points on 6-13 shooting and ended up fouling out of the game as the Wolves put up the finishing touches of their 105-93 Game 2 win.

The 6-foot-6 guard has struggled over his last four meetings with the Wolves dating back to the regular season and these past two playoff games, scoring just 13, 23, 18, and 20. He never scored more than 23, and just shot only 35 percent from the floor and 20-57 overall.&nbsp;

"It's obviously something I need to be better with," Booker said as he finished Game 2 with six turnovers and fouled out with 20 points.&nbsp;

The Suns, despite some good stretches here and there, kind of have been caught up with the Timberwolves&rsquo; runs in the third quarter of both games, getting buried amidst the adversity of playing on the road.
&ldquo;(This) is when you have to be as close as ever,&rdquo; Booker said. &ldquo;In a hostile environment. On the road. Just talk your way through it. Hold each other accountable. Have honest conversations and understand it&rsquo;s for the best of the team.&rdquo;
Among the issues the Suns faced in both games, apart from the usual takes from naysayers about the need to have a real point guard around their big three &ndash; are them only taking 18 three-point shot attempts all game. In the year 2024, that just cannot happen.&nbsp;
Teams have to keep the defenses honest, and against this stifling Wolves defense which can adapt to any situation, being predictable with most of their shots taken in the midrange and inside the paint is giving Minnesota the unlikely advantage of knowing what&rsquo;s coming and being able to prepare for it defensively. The Suns have to incorporate additional offensive sets, particularly to take more threes, stretch out the defense, and in turn open up the paint more and give space for their three creators to make plays.
"My frustration is just within the team. We need to execute. We play well when we're playing and then we need to stick together once things turn bad. We've done that throughout the season. Something that has to be corrected."
It does not help with the NBA&rsquo;s best three-point shooter Grayson Allen being out with an ankle injury, but that does make the Suns all the more to have to shoot those threes to compensate for Allen&rsquo;s production. For a player of Booker&rsquo;s caliber &ndash; All-Star, All-NBA, a top 10 scorer in the league, having that kind of performance is just unacceptable. The Suns won&rsquo;t be able to win with that kind of production from him, and he needs to step up and provide more.
&ldquo;We&rsquo;re all trying to fight out there, and so far in this series, once it&rsquo;s turned to s&mdash;, we&rsquo;ve kind of separated instead of being together,&rsquo;&rsquo; Booker said. &ldquo;And that&rsquo;s everybody, top to bottom. It&rsquo;s something we got to figure out.&rdquo;
A huge chunk of the credit should be given to the Timberwolves&rsquo; defense as well, which is as good as anybody has seen in 20 years. Tenacious, swarming &ndash; it just comes right at you all at once. Booker alongside his co-stars Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal have struggled against it for two games but now they have to make the adjustments as the series shifts to Phoenix.
