Anthony Davis, Austin Reaves Headline NBA's Most Overrated Players' List

When listing down the most talented bigs in the NBA, Anthony Davis is often mentioned. He is one of the best two-way players in the league, making an impact both offensively and defensively when he's healthy.

When discussing the most prolific scoring guards, Austin Reaves is often part of the list. He's capable of spacing the floor and creating his own offense, which allows him to average over 20 points per game. However, these two players found themselves on a list no one wants to be mentioned in.

That list would be Zach Buckley's Bleacher Report article listing the most overrated players in the NBA today. Reaves ended up tenth, and Davis ended up number one.

The article emphasized that these players are not considered bad. Instead, they were placed on it based on how much they were being paid or how much they were being appreciated versus how they actually impact things on the hardwood.

Reaves just signed the biggest contract ever for an undrafted player this summer. He returned to the Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year, $185 million deal. That contract is a major reason he ended up on the list.

That amount shows that he is being treated as an All-Star. However, his defensive impact is almost nonexistent, and his offense places him among good offensive players, not among the great ones.

With these things combined, questions have arisen on whether he has what it takes to be the number two guy on a team hoping to become contenders.

As for Davis, there's no doubt that Davis is an extremely talented big man. He can lead a team in scoring, crash the boards at a high rate, and cause problems with his defense.

The concern over the last few seasons regarding the former number one overall pick is availability. Over the last few years, he has struggled to stay on the court and has even been nicknamed 'Day-to-Davis' for how often he's been injured.

Despite those health concerns, reports indicate he's about to earn another huge payday when he signs his next extension.

Aside from Davis and Reaves, eight other players were named on the list, each with a compelling reason as to why they were put on it.

Who Else Made the List Aside From Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves?

Immediately after Reaves in the number nine spot is Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun. Interestingly, the 'overrated' label is one he's been carrying for a while now. Earlier, his peers voted him the league's most overrated player in an anonymous poll.

Next is San Antonio Spurs point guard De'Aaron Fox at eight, and Anthony Davis' Washington Wizards teammate Trae Young at number seven.

Rounding out the list before getting to the top five is former number one overall pick Zion Williamson, who, just like Davis, has been severely hampered by health issues.

Coming in at number five is Miles Bridges, who was recently traded to the Phoenix Suns.

That very trade is part of the reason why he made the list, since the Suns decided to part ways with a 2023 first-round pick. For a player who has never been an All-Star, an unprotected first might be too high a price.

At number four is Utah Jazz defensive specialist Jaren Jackson Jr., who has also had availability issues, a trade valuation that might have been too high, and a contract that seemingly far exceeds his performance.

Cracking the top three with Davis are Paolo Banchero and Brandon Ingram.

Both of whom have received criticism for poor shot selection, which is rather head-scratching for the offenses that heavily rely on their production.
