Stephen Curry to Meet LeBron James to Recruit Lakers Star to Warriors, Per NBA Insider

Things might shake up in the NBA soon, as rumors of LeBron James and Stephen Curry pairing up could come to fruition. After the 2024 Olympics, Curry and James expressed their interest in playing with each other in the NBA. However, that goal seemed impossible because of their matching salaries, making it difficult to bring the pair together.

But it seems like Curry and the Golden State Warriors are willing to turn that dream into a reality. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, Curry plans to meet James this summer to discuss recruitment plans.

"The Warriors are very much open to pursuing LeBron James, and they plan to do so this offseason in free agency," Siegel said. "LeBron James, at the end of his career, he could still contribute at a high level; we saw that in the playoffs. Pairing him with Stephen Curry is going to be something that the Warriors look to pursue over the next few weeks."

"It seemed very doubtful, it seemed low percentage, now it’s kind of questionable," Siegel continued. "Now there’s going to be some legs to this. ... That same source told us that Steph is planning on meeting and talking with LeBron about potentially joining the Warriors over the course of the next few weeks, leading up to free agency."

Looking back at Curry and James' pairing, they found success in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Team USA went undefeated in the Olympic Games, resulting in a gold medal. James averaged 14.2 points, 8.5 assists, and 6.8 rebounds. Meanwhile, Curry put up 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

While numbers may seem relatively low, their stats are standard, given how they have to share the court with other NBA All-Stars. It'll be interesting to see what the duo of Curry and James could pull off under NBA rules.

Can the Warriors Sign LeBron James?

While the idea of seeing the pairing of LeBron James and Stephen Curry sounds like a good idea, can the Golden State Warriors actually bring in the King?

According to odds charts, the Warriors have an 11% chance of signing LeBron. They technically can negotiate a deal with James, given how he's entering this summer as an unrestricted free agent. However, it'll be difficult to make an appealing offer due to their salary cap constraint.

The Warriors are currently over the salary cap. Meaning to say, Golden State has limited options to offer James. The best the Warriors could do is offer him the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, which is projected to be $15 million.

James previously stated on his podcast, 'Mind the Game,' that he wants to play for a team that's still willing to pay him a huge sum. To LeBron, he's still deserving of a large amount of money because he believes that he should be treated with respect for his contributions to basketball.

Having that in mind, James suiting up for the Warriors seems like a blur. However, it'll be interesting to see how Stephen Curry can persuade LeBron when they meet up later this summer.
