Victor Wembanyama’s Agent Reveals Why He Turned Down Millions From Soda Companies

Victor Wembanyama is already one of the NBA's biggest players, and he's still only 22. Already, his impressive skill set and unique play style have people thinking he will one day cement his place in the GOAT conversation.
With how fast his fanbase is growing, it only makes sense that big brands want to partner with him. However, the French star and his camp have been very selective about which brands they want to attach to his image.
In an article for The Athletic by Jared Weiss, his agent, Jeremy Medjana, was quoted as saying Wemby has turned down endorsement deals from soda companies.
"We're not gonna mix his image with sodas like Coca-Cola. They all want him, but Victor will ever sell soda," Medjana said. "Because he doesn't want to kill the kids."
Interestingly, he was already turning down endorsement deals even before he was making NBA money. Those offers to partner with soda brands were given to him when he was still playing in France, and he turned them down all the same.
Victor Wembanyama has developed a reputation for being a highly disciplined athlete. He's focused on refining his game and keeping his body healthy, and soda is counterintuitive to what he is trying to accomplish.
Even for someone so young, sugar intake is likely something that he monitors. Heavy sugar consumption is extremely detrimental to the body, especially for an athlete whose natural stature is historically considered to be injury-prone in the NBA.
For Wemby, though, refusing to endorse soda goes beyond protecting his body. He knows that as a star, many young people look up to him. If they see him endorsing something that is considered unhealthy, it might encourage them to consume that product.
By not attaching his image to anything that could be damaging, he could help influence a generation of fans who'll prioritize their health.
For Wemby, keeping his body healthy isn't just about maintaining an image. It's something he prioritizes to help him achieve his goals for his basketball career.
That's why he even follows a strict sleep schedule to stay in tip-top shape.
Victor Wembanyama Aims to Get Ten Hours of Sleep Daily
The greatest athletes of any sport are often set apart by their dedication to the game. A major part of that dedication that fans don't often get to see is what they do off the court and how they keep their bodies healthy.
For Victor Wembanyama, a major part of his health regimen is his sleep schedule. To ensure he gets enough rest, he reportedly aims for 10 hours of shut-eye each day.
Part of that routine is putting his phone on airplane mode at 9:00 p.m. so that he doesn't get any notifications that might disrupt him. He instead spends time reading before bed to wind down.
Recently, it was revealed that when games finish late, he wears blue light glasses. This ensures that even when he sleeps late, he avoids the blue light from digital devices.
While all these might seem extreme to some, it showcases the level of dedication Wemby has to taking care of his body.
