“Everything You Said Was Right”: Ex-NBA Star Credits LaVar Ball for Predicting LaMelo Ball’s Future

LaMelo Ball is one of the brightest young stars in the NBA today. His perfect blend of nonchalance and flashy moves on the hardwood has made him a fan-favorite point guard. Before getting drafted into the league, LaMelo's father, LaVar Ball, boldly predicted that he would be the biggest star among his brothers. True enough, Melo got drafted as the No. 2 pick in 2020 and immediately became an All-Star in his second season.

Fast forward to the present day, being the proud father that he is, LaVar asked former NBA star Gilbert Arenas about his honest thoughts on LaMelo. Arenas couldn't help but credit the senior Ball for being right about his youngest son's career trajectory.

"What do you think of my boy Melo now?" LaVar asked enthusiastically.

"Everything you said was right," Arenas replied. "I don't know if you've seen my take when I said, 'Right now, I'll take him at the number 2 pick because he's a star.' Stars like that need to be in star cities where how they play is just star power. We've seen it in high school. Obviously, we knew that it was going to translate."

Arenas then continued to give LaMelo his flowers and explained why and how he became a huge star in the league.

"The fact that people even talk about Charlotte (Hornets), it's only one person ... because it's the style that he plays," Arenas added. "The reason that his shoes are successful is that he translates to the young kids. His game is what transcends. You're talking about a pure point guard that has a pure scoring ability, which is rare."

Looking at LaMelo's numbers in Charlotte, he averaged 20.8 points, 7.3 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in six seasons. Despite only becoming an All-Star once, his absence from the All-Star games was due to injuries. Throughout his time with the Hornets, Ball has struggled with chronic ankle issues. This hindered him from becoming eligible for any awards or honors.

Nevertheless, LaMelo is widely considered the primary reason why the Hornets became relevant again. Hopefully, his talents will mesh well with Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves next season.

Anthony Edwards Opens Up About Working on Postgame Interviews With LaMelo Ball

LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards are known to be unfiltered stars, especially on the microphone. Before becoming a duo, Ball and Edwards had, respectively, dropped F-bombs and made unnecessary but humorous remarks during interviews.

One of the biggest concerns since Ball got traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves is that their PR team might be in for a wild ride now that the two unfiltered and unhinged stars have joined forces.

Fortunately for them, it appears that Ant and Melo are trying to work on keeping it professional next season. In Edwards' recent appearance at Fanatics Fest NYC, he promised that he has been working with Ball to get their act together during interviews.

"We’ve already been talking about cutting our cussing back and being more professional," Edwards said. "We trying to get it together before they get on us."

While that does come as a relief to the PR team, fans have been looking forward to seeing the two stars say whatever they want on the microphone. For now, everything remains to be seen. Knowing Ant and Melo, it could take some time before they fully adapt to a more professional tone.
