If there are people who weren't holding their breath regarding LeBron James' decision, they certainly are now. That's because Patrick Beverley just announced on X (Sunday, July 19) that James will make his decision regarding his free agency today.

Beverley, who played with James on the Los Angeles Lakers for a portion of the 2022-23 season, reiterated a rumor that this is the day James finally makes his decision about which franchise he's taking his talents to next.

Beverley did not confirm his sources regarding this particular rumor, but the way he announced it made it seem like it was a sure thing that James would officially announce his next team before the day ended.

"Rumor has it Bron makes his decision today!!! đź‘€" Beverley tweeted.

If true, this is certainly big news for the teams that are even slightly in consideration for James.

Organizations like the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, all considered frontrunners, have the most reason to anticipate what today brings on the LeBron front.

Of course, even teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets, who are on the periphery of the James sweepstakes, are also waiting for news.

Even at 41-years of age, James can have a significant impact on whichever team he joins.

He won't be the force of nature that he once was during the peak of his career. However, his combination of IQ, court vision, proven on-court leadership, and his ability to control the pace of the game will be his most positive additions to whichever team he joins

From a competitor's standpoint, though, he would benefit the most if he were to join a team that already has pieces in place to compete, and are only lacking one more piece to finally get them over the hump.

Brian Windhorst Thinks LeBron James Is in No Rush

While it is not a direct contradiction to what Patrick Beverley posted on X, a recent report from Brian Windhorst indicates that if James does not make his decision today, it wouldn't be a surprise at all.

According to the ESPN Insider on a recent edition of 'NBA Today', the four-time NBA champion remains in a 'no-rush' state in deciding where he'll play next.

This comes after a report that the league itself is waiting for James to make a decision.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said the league has yet to finalize the schedule for the 2026-27 campaign because the current face of the league has not yet signed with a team.

Where he chooses to play next season would have implications league-wide and doesn't just directly affect the team that he signs with.

Since he has not chosen a team, the league does not know which games to schedule for important days like opening day or Christmas Day. Rivalry games and where they'll be placed on the calendar will also have to be taken into account.

At this stage, the only thing that can be said with absolute certainty is that James will likely be part of a team already before the NBA's Training Camp starts on September 29.
