After leading the New York Knicks to a title, Jalen Brunson has begun to earn comparisons to some of basketball's greatest talents. One such comparison he's earned is to that of NBA legend and cultural icon Allen Iverson.
Iverson recently gave his own answer to these comparisons. He did not say anything bad about Brunson. He did not go on a podcast to argue. Instead, he made a quiet statement on social media. The post spoke for itself.
Iverson recently posted a photo on Instagram highlighting his impressive resume, and he did not add a caption.
The photo featured Iverson sitting behind a desk. In front of him were the trophies he had earned through his remarkable skills and drive to become great.
Iverson set the tone for what would be an impressive career very early. In his first season in the league, he averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 2.1 steals on his way to the Rookie of the Year award.
In only his third season in the league, he averaged a league-leading 26.8 points per game to earn his first-ever scoring title. That season, he earned his first of three All-NBA first team selections.
In 2000-01, he led the league in scoring and steals with 31.1 ppg and 2.5 spg. That year, he also received the league's Most Valuable Player award.
He would proceed to lead the same categories next season with 31.4 ppg and 2.8 spg. Then, in 2002-03, he once again led all players in steals with 2.7 per game.
By the end of his career, Iverson won four scoring titles.
Overall, he finished his career as an 11-time All-Star, winning the All-Star Game MVP twice. Aside from his three first-team selections, he was named to the second team three times and the third team once.
His jersey was retired by the Philadelphia 76ers, and he was named to the NBA's 75 Greatest Players list in 2021.
One thing he fell short of, however, was winning an NBA Title.
Jalen Brunson Leads Allen Iverson in Only One Category
For all of the comparisons Jalen Brunson has received to Allen Iverson, he is still quite far from him in terms of achievements.
So far, Brunson only has three All-Star selections to his name. He's also only been named to an All-NBA team three times, all of which were for the All-NBA second team.
He does have a Clutch Player of the Year award from 2025, but that award was nonexistent during Iverson's playing days
Brunson has been considered an MVP candidate, but has so far never cracked the list of finalists.
On paper, one can argue that Iverson is ahead in terms of personal achievements. However, Brunson has already won an NBA title and was named Finals MVP.
Iverson came close once, but he ultimately failed. During the 2001 postseason, Iverson led a seemingly unlikely, veteran-laden 76ers squad all the way to the NBA Finals.
There, they ran into a Los Angeles Lakers squad featuring Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, who had won the NBA title the previous year.
The Iverson-led Sixers team tested LA early, taking the first game into overtime and ultimately pulling off the upset.
LA, however, had the perfect response. They went on to win the next four games, beating the Sixers in a gentlemen's sweep to win the second of three titles.
Iverson might have more trophies on his desk. But Brunson holds the one championship ring that Iverson always wanted.
