Alvin Gentry out as Kings' interim coach, discussing front-office role

Alvin Gentry has been informed that he is no longer the interim head coach of the Sacramento Kings and the team will commence a comprehensive coaching search immediately, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN later reported that the Kings search is expected to wide-ranging, including candidates with history of turning lottery teams into playoff teams. Among those expected to be considered: Kenny Atkinson, Steve Clifford, Mark Jackson, Mike Brown, Bucks assistants Charles Lee and Darvin Ham.

Even though Gentry may not have left a good enough impression as a coach, he may have left a good enough to keep around the team for front office purposes. According to Woj, the Kings and Alvin Gentry are discussing a front-office role and a resolution is expected sometime this week.
