Latest NBA Trade Idea Sends Giannis to Warriors and Kevin Durant to Timberwolves

A single trade proposal could reshape the balance of power across the NBA. One team lands a two-time MVP. Another pairs one of the league's greatest scorers with its rising superstar. Two franchises begin entirely new chapters. And according to a recent Bleacher Report proposal by NBA insider Greg Swartz, it all happens through one blockbuster deal involving four contenders.

The fantasy scenario sends Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Golden State Warriors and Kevin Durant to the Minnesota Timberwolves, creating two new championship pairings around Stephen Curry and Anthony Edwards.

Of course, acquiring players of that caliber comes at a steep cost. The Warriors, Timberwolves, Rockets, and Bucks would all need to sacrifice significant assets to make the massive trade work.

The Rockets, who’ll lose Durant, gain a different veteran star in Jimmy Butler. They’ll also receive the Wolves upcoming first rounder, giving them the 28th overall pick.

As for Milwaukee, they’ll receive the most pieces. Giannis is arguably the single most valuable piece in this trade, so they’ll receive plenty to help jumpstart the post-Antetokoumpo era.

From the Warriors, they’ll receive Brandin Podziemski, the 11th overall pick in the upcoming draft, as well as unprotected first in 2028 and 2032. From the Rockets, they get Dorian Finney-Smith. From the Wolves, they get Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.

The idea is especially intriguing given the recent history attached to each team. Golden State aggressively pursued Giannis before the trade deadline and reportedly discussed packages involving multiple unprotected first-round picks.

Minnesota has spent the last two seasons searching for the ideal co-star next to Edwards after reshaping its roster around him, while Houston only acquired Durant last offseason as part of the NBA’s historic seven-team trade.

That’s also what makes a proposal of this magnitude so difficult to pull off in reality. Modern apron restrictions, salary-matching rules, and the sheer number of star contracts involved have made blockbuster multi-team deals increasingly rare across the league.

Still, the proposal attempts to solve several problems at once. The Warriors maximize what remains of Curry’s title window with another MVP-caliber superstar.

The Timberwolves pair Edwards with one of the greatest scorers in NBA history. Houston pivots toward a tougher veteran core around Butler, and Milwaukee walks away with the massive collection of players and draft assets a Giannis trade would likely demand.

While this fantasy trade scenario might seem compelling, the Warriors and Timberwolves are far from guaranteed to land a star this offseason.

The Timberwolves and Warriors have competition for Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo

Even though his 2025-26 campaign was hampered by injuries, Giannis Antetokounmpo remains a highly coveted asset. And even though Kevin Durant is already nearing his 40s, he is still one of the most reliable offensive weapons in the league.

Suitors were already lining up for Antetokounmpo this past trade deadline. The Warriors already tried to make a deal for him then, but it’s safe to say the package they put together just wasn’t good enough.

While Golden State will have another chance to grab him this summer, the rumors swirling about trade packages from other teams might be better. For example, the Boston Celtics are rumored to be dangling Jaylen Brown to the Bucks.

Brown is a more attractive asset than anything Golden State can offer by leaps and bounds. Not only is he already a star, but he’s also someone the franchise can immediately build around.

Meanwhile, there are murmurs that Durant is drawing attention from teams with win-now aspirations.

According to recent rumors or hypothetical trade scenarios, the Miami Heat, Portland Trail Blazers and even the Boston Celtics might try their chances.

The Heat could offer Tyler Herro. While the Celtics and Blazers have young players outside of their proven stars. If the rumors are true and these teams try to acquire Durant, the Wolves might find themselves empty-handed.
