Seth Curry hopes to return in time for Nets' season opener

After undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle in May, Seth Curry is hoping to return in time for the Brooklyn Nets' season opener against the New Orleans Pelicans on Oct. 19.

Curry dealt with ankle soreness throughout last season, causing him to suit up in just 23 games for Brooklyn (including the playoffs). Last year with the Nets, Curry averaged 14.9 points, 3.1 threes, 2.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 0.9 steals on .493/.468/.857 shooting splits.

“Getting closer every day. Doing a little bit more and more every day. I’m trying to be smart about it. Pass all the tests I need to pass and get ready to go, and stay mentally engaged at the same time to be ready for the season,” Curry said. according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “[I’m doing] full individual workouts… a bit of everything except playing five-on-five. That’s pretty much where I’m at.”

Curry estimated that he's at 85-90 percent healthy, and head coach Steve Nash is holding out hope that he could return for the Nets' preseason finale against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 14.

“That’d be ideal. Can’t guarantee it. Whenever he’s ready, he’ll be ready. To be determined,” Nash said. “We’ve got to monitor his progress every day and see how it progresses.”

The Nets should be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference once their core is healthy.

“It’s going to be great," Curry said of the Nets finally being at full strength. "I feel like I had a great year last year. [I] was banged up but I could be even better healthy, add even more to the team. Not just me but everyone coming back healthy with a good fresh mindset is going to help this team a lot."
