We're already in the middle of June, and basketball fans are eagerly anticipating LeBron James’ decision. Earlier this summer, James promised that he would provide an update on his career status by late June or early July. After playing 23 years in the NBA and now at 41 years old, he has said he wants to prioritize spending his summer with his family and use that time as an opportunity to discuss with them what he should do next.

There have been several rumors about James either retiring, sticking with the Los Angeles Lakers, or joining another team for Year 24. However, it seems that most of the recent rumors are leaning toward him staying in LA. NBA insider Marc Spears mentioned on NBA Today that his sources told him that King James will likely run it back in LA, possibly bringing in his former teammate Kevin Love.

"I'm hearing that (LeBron James) is likely coming back," Spears said. "I am curious under this new Lakers regime (how much the salary) is, though. ... Also, I'm hearing one of his old teammates in Cleveland, Kevin Love, could likely be joining the Lakers too. ... I can see those two guys being reunited there."

The last time James and Love suited up for the same team was back in the 2017-18 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. That season was their last NBA Finals run together, and their first run without Kyrie Irving after he decided to join the Boston Celtics.

It'll be interesting to see how Love would fit in with the Lakers roster. Now 37 years old, Love isn't exactly the player he once was. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 6.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 16.6 minutes of play with the Utah Jazz. If anything, he's likely going to be brought in to help with rebounding duties.

While rumors about LeBron James’ future with the Lakers continue to circulate, attention is also turning toward how other teams are reacting.

Warriors anticipating LeBron James' return to Lakers

Earlier this summer, the Golden State Warriors openly expressed their interest in acquiring LeBron James on their roster. Many are on board with the idea of Stephen Curry teaming up with James in the Bay Area. However, as of the latest rumors regarding LeBron's career, it seems that all signs are pointing towards him going back to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Because of these rumors, NBA insider Anthony Slater reported that the Warriors are now preparing for a scenario wherein they don't recruit James.

"Openness does not equal anticipation," Slater reported. "All the intel that Warriors decision-makers have gathered continues to point toward James' return to the Lakers, team sources said, and they are currently plotting their summer under that premise."

"The Warriors' pitch, if the door cracks open, would be simple," Slater continued. "They can clear room for the full $15.1 million nontaxpayer midlevel -- a team-friendly, low-risk bargain with on-court and off-court financial upside.

"James is an obvious top free agent target at that price point. The Warriors could theoretically tack on a second-season player option and get Stephen Curry in on the recruitment process, if required. But they haven't knocked on that door because they've been given any indication it can be unlocked."

With that in mind, Warriors fans shouldn't be expecting James to unite with Curry anytime soon. However, reports suggest that Curry and James have yet to meet and discuss recruitment plans. Several reports indicated that Curry plans to meet with James to hopefully convince him to join the Warriors. We have yet to see how Steph could entice Bron to move to San Francisco.
