Raptors extend qualifying offer to Gary Trent Jr.

The Toronto Raptors announced Monday afternoon that they have extended qualifying offers to free agents Gary Trent Jr. and Nando de Colo. This move by Toronto now makes Trent Jr. a restricted free agent, meaning the Raptors will be able to match any offer the guard may get in free agency.

Trent Jr. seems likely to stay with Toronto as the Raptors acquired him during a midseason trade with the Portland Trail Blazers for guard Norman Powell and letting him walk for nothing wouldn't make much sense. But Trent Jr. could be in line for a substantial pay day as he has proven to be a consistent knock down shooter in the league, so it remains to be seen if the Raptors will in fact match anything for the three-year player.

Trent Jr. appeared in 58 games last season between the Blazers and Raptors, averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 31.1 minutes per game, which were all career highs.
