LeBron James has made it clear that he’s not contemplating which team to join next based on how much money they can offer. For the billionaire, ahead of his 24th season, all that matters is a sporting project that can allow him to chase a fifth ring. Amid all this, former Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers has advice for the King on which team to join. And it’s not his former team.
If a fifth NBA title is indeed his motivation, there are a few organizations that already have a ready-built roster that provides the easiest path to it. Per Myers, that side is the Philadelphia 76ers.
"If he were here, I'd say, I honestly believe this is your best chance to win," Myers said on the Game Over podcast, with James' agent Rich Paul and Max Kellerman. "You have to decide all the other things that are equally important, because it's his life, right?"
Myers continued by saying that James already faces scrutiny for the decisions he makes, including in his personal life.
"So, he's been through all that," Myers added. "What I would just say is if it's about winning and that, let's talk about this team because you can win here in Philadelphia."
James currently has four championships. He won two with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013. Then he returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers and won with them in 2016, beating Myers’ Warriors in the Finals. In 2020, he won another with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Whichever franchise he’s joined, he has helped them win a title. If the way he played last season is any indication, he is still at a level where he can help a team win a championship, provided it has the right pieces. The 41-year-old averaged 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game in the 2025-26 season.
Add similar numbers to a 76ers side that’s already shaping up to be formidable, and there’s a lot for the franchise to be optimistic about.
Why Are the Sixers Considered the Best Choice For LeBron James?
For the longest time, the 76ers’ hopes of success were pinned on Joel Embiid, who, although a generationally talented center, has found it difficult to stay on the court because of constant injuries. With Embiid as the main man, they never went past the Eastern Conference semifinals.
With the emergence of Tyrese Maxey as a genuine superstar, though, fans are starting to regain some hope. Then there’s also guard VJ Edgecombe, who had a stellar rookie year last season.
Together, they already have a young backcourt that can shoulder the load, especially as they continue to develop their skills and chemistry.
This summer, they got even stronger. Next season, alongside Embiid, Maxey, and Edgecombe, the Sixers’ lineup will also feature 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown.
With a new superstar on the squad, the team will still have the firepower it needs, even with Embiid out. Because of this, there are high hopes and expectations for them.
While they have yet to actually play a game together, many are already imagining what it would look like if LeBron James played alongside them.
If James can put together the same kind of season he had in 2025-26 with the Sixers, there is no telling the heights they can reach together.
