LeBron James has entered year 24 in the NBA, and this time it's with the Philadelphia 76ers. For the first time in eight years, James is no longer sporting the Purple and Gold colorway. What makes James' arrival in Philly special is how he's now teaming up with Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey, essentially forming a superteam.
Given the team's current roster, there are expectations that the 76ers will win the NBA title this season. Honestly, the idea isn't far-fetched. Four All-Stars combined and one rising star in VJ Edgecombe make the 76ers look like the team to beat. Of course, LeBron's championship experience will also come into play. Sixers legend Allen Iverson recently shared his thoughts on whether the King's arrival will result in a championship for Philly.
"I know for a fact it's going to happen," Iverson told sports anchor Jeff Skversky. "I'm confident in the ability of the guys who we have on the roster... This is it. We're going to have a parade. I promise you that."
While that's a big promise to fulfill at the end of the 76ers, the 76ers are off to a great start this season. Looking at the standings, they're currently 3-1, having lost only to the Detroit Pistons.
What makes the new 76ers team special, at least so far, is that we've seen that all the stars are willing to adjust and play a certain role.
LeBron has fully committed to playing a floor general, feeding all his teammates on the offensive end. Embiid, who's been the face of the franchise for many years now, has openly committed to playing the anchor inside the paint. Meanwhile, Brown and Maxey have been sharing the scoring load, with Tyrese as the primary scoring option.
If the 76ers continue to work in harmony, set egos aside, and act like a team throughout the season, there's a huge possibility that they could back up Iverson's sentiments.
LeBron James Speaks on Challenges Playing With 76ers
LeBron James is now playing for the fourth team in his career. Now representing the Philadelphia 76ers, he is in his first season in the City of Brotherly Love. To everyone's surprise, their chemistry has been working so far despite James and Jaylen Brown still adjusting to the team's culture.
However, after the Detroit Pistons handed the 76ers their first loss of the season on Sunday, people suddenly became concerned about whether James is dealing with struggles or challenges playing in Philly. The King spoke his mind on the matter.
"Challenges? I wouldn't say it's a challenge," James said in a locker room interview after the 76ers' loss against the Pistons. "I mean, it's basketball. For me, I pride myself on being able to play in any role, whatever role that's gonna help the team. And obviously, we're all trying to figure it out. I look at it as just trying to have a growth mindset and doing whatever I can do to help the team win."
The 76ers are set to face the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. Now that Tyrese Haliburton is fully recovered, it'll be interesting to see how Philly plans to dissect the Pacers coming off a loss against the Pistons.
