It's a sad time to be a Minnesota Timberwolves fan. On Tuesday, NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Anthony Edwards will be sidelined for up to two months due to an arthroscopic procedure he needs to undergo on his right knee. Apparently, Edwards started the 2026-27 season with pain in his right knee, but decided to try to battle through it. However, the Wolves didn't want to take any risks and made the difficult decision to have his knee surgically repaired, even if it meant the team would lose several games in his absence.

Former Sixth Man of the Year Eddie Johnson recently went on social media to express his thoughts on Edwards' sudden injury. While he didn't directly address Ant's situation, he instead called out the league and pleaded with teams to invest more time in strength-training camps in preparation for the grueling 82-game regular season.

"This is an Epidemic," Johnson wrote on X. "Longer, more intensive training camps, please, to strengthen bodies for the rigors of an 82-game season. We played on canvas Chuck Taylor’s and never went down like our players are in today’s games."

This comes as a bummer for Minnesota fans. The Timberwolves were off to a great start to their season. Minnesota currently has a 3-1 record and is one of the most exciting teams to watch in the league today.

Edwards was also off to an explosive start prior to getting sidelined. He averaged 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in four games. In those four games, Ant managed to come up with two 40+-point outings. He scored 45 points against the Miami Heat, then he dropped 47 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He did all this while battling through a bad right knee.

NBA Legend Expresses Thoughts on Anthony Edwards' 2-Month-Long Absence

Ever since the Minnesota Timberwolves acquired LaMelo Ball via trade earlier this summer, many have been predicting that the team would flourish. This is because Ball's style of play matches the energy Anthony Edwards brings, both on and off the court.

True enough, their preseason games, combined with their first four regular-season games together as a duo, proved to be both an exciting and scary sight to witness. It was entertaining to watch the high-energy plays both stars give on the floor. To add the cherry on top, it's helped the Wolves win games.

But now that Edwards is set to potentially be sidelined for two months, the entire game plan has changed. NBA legend Carmelo Anthony shared his thoughts on Tuesday regarding how Ant's absence greatly affects the Wolves.

"I think this hurts the plan," Anthony said on NBC. "They brought in LaMelo Ball to kind of get Ant and put him back to his original shooting guard position. You talk about taking time away from that and building it; that takes time. They were having fun. They were the most exciting duo to watch in the NBA... My question is: will Ant's knee be good when he comes back?"

The good news is that Edwards could return earlier than anticipated. However, the latest he could make a comeback is by Christmas.
