“They Felt Derrick White Had a Better Season”: Jaylen Brown’s MVP Season Did Not Impress Celtics, Says Brian Windhorst

After 10 years of playing with the Boston Celtics, Jaylen Brown is set to suit up for the Philadelphia 76ers. While the Celtics made it known that they will be testing Brown's trade market value, it's still shocking to see them push through with a deal with the 76ers. Brown was the second-best player on the Celtics' roster, if not better than Jayson Tatum.

Last season, during Jayson Tatum's 10-month absence due to injury, Brown had an MVP-caliber season. He was among the top 10 players to potentially win the MVP award, finishing in sixth place. Despite these statistics, NBA insider Brian Windhorst revealed that the Celtics were unimpressed by his efforts.

"Look, I just know that the Celtics felt that even though Jaylen Brown was talking about himself for MVP or there was this MVP campaign for Jaylen Brown, the Celtics did not feel that Jaylen had the best season on their team," Windhorst said on his show. "I don't mean Jayson Tatum; they felt that Derrick White had a better season."

Windhorst's claims are quite mind-boggling to think about. If we're going to compare Brown and White's numbers, it's safe to say that JB delivered in the scoring department more than Derrick by a huge mile. Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.0 steals in 71 games last season.

Meanwhile, if Windhorst's narrative were true, White's numbers could've impressed the Celtics more because he efficiently contributed in every facet of the game. White averaged 16.5 points, 5.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.1 steals in 77 games.

While the all-around numbers could've factored into the Celtics' perception of White having a better season, the fact that Brown was considered for the MVP award should've been enough reason to keep him around.

Brown also took care of business for the Celtics, leading them to the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, while Tatum was absent due to his ruptured Achilles tendon.

No matter what we say now, though, it's useless crying over spilled milk. What we can look forward to now is the new formation of the Sixers trio featuring Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey.

Former NBA Star Believes that Celtics President Handed 76ers a Guaranteed Finals Trip

Boston Celtics president Brad Stevens has been on the hot seat after trading Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. Many Celtics fans and analysts alike were flabbergasted by Stevens' decision to let Brown go.

Former NBA Celtics big man Kendrick Perkins thinks that Stevens basically guaranteed the 76ers a trip to the 2027 NBA Finals.

"This is a sad day for the Boston Celtics," Perkins said. "Paul George hasn't been consistently good since I was skinny. (Brad Stevens) just basically handed the Philadelphia 76ers a trip to the NBA Finals next year."

Honestly, it does seem like the 76ers won the trade. In a span of George's two seasons in Philly, he only played a total of 78 games out of 164 games. PG barely completed an entire season within two campaigns.

Having said that, the Sixers are now looking forward to a more active five-time All-Star who's likely to drop MVP-caliber performances. If Brown pops off and outdoes himself from last season, we could be looking at a scarier 76ers crew next season.
