The NBA is investigating whether LA Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard and team owner Steve Ballmer circumvented salary cap rules through hidden sponsorship deals. According to reports, Ballmer allegedly offered Leonard extra money via his green banking company, while sports journalist Pablo Torre suggested a second multimillion-dollar endorsement with Daktronics may also exist, though the league has not confirmed this.

Fox Sports Radio host Brian Noe called for severe punishment on air.

"If this is true, the Clippers and Kawhi Leonard should be punished severely," Noe said. "I look at Kawhi; he should be suspended the entire season. ... Kawhi Leonard knows he can't (circumvent the salary cap). ... He knows he's breaking NBA rules."

"Then we get to Steve Ballmer. Steve Ballmer should be crushed for this thing," Noe added. "Steve Ballmer shouldn't get punished just for blatantly lying; it's mostly because of (allowing Leonard to sign illegal sponsorship deals). You can't allow a team, an owner, a player to all conspire together where the player gets paid under the table."

Kawhi Leonard Set to Go on Tour Amid Ongoing Investigation

Despite the ongoing investigation, Leonard announced an Asian tour earlier this August, including a stop in Hong Kong on August 15. “Hong Kong fans, thank you for inviting me,” Leonard said. “I’m super excited to come. … Let’s have a good time.”

Leonard’s tour announcement comes as the league weighs potential penalties, signaling confidence despite speculation about suspension.

Leonard also remains on the trading block. Earlier this summer, the Clippers made a deal with the Toronto Raptors to send Leonard back up north for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and several draft picks.

However, the trade was paused due to the investigation.

Analysts urged Toronto to back out, but sources say the Raptors remain interested, hoping to finalize before training camp, despite warnings they could inherit penalties if Leonard is sanctioned.
