After 10 years of playing with the Boston Celtics, Jaylen Brown is now part of the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics surprisingly traded Brown, letting go of arguably their best player. While the narrative was that Celtics President Brad Stevens wanted that trade, former Celtics player Brian Scalabrine believes that Brown is just playing the victim.
In Scalabrine's recent report on SiriusXM NBA Radio, he claimed that Brown demanded the trade to the Sixers. However, Brown's representatives quickly denied Scalabrine's allegations and confirmed that Stevens had indeed pushed for the trade. Despite all that, Scalabrine isn't fully convinced by the situation and is now accusing Brown of a lack of accountability.
"Jaylen Brown wants to be the victim in all of this, and this is the way he’s doing it now," Scalabrine said in another airing of SiriusXM NBA Radio, reposted by NBACentral on X. He’s using me, or his PR team, or whatever it is, to play the victim, and he’s not going to take responsibility for it. That’s fine."
"I just feel like he wants to say whatever he wants, and he doesn’t want to be held accountable, just like on his Twitch," Scalabrine continued. "He wants his legacy to remain intact, and he’s not going to take responsibility for the other stuff that he brings up. And this is just the beginning of it."
Whatever the case may be, what matters for Brown right now is that he seems to be in a better spot now with the Philadelphia 76ers. JB is surrounded by LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey as his new teammates. So far, the Sixers have had an impressive start to their season, notching a 3-1 record.
Despite Brown no longer being the focal point of his team, he's still putting up All-Star numbers. After four games of play, Jaylen averaged 20.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals. It appears that JB is fully committed to his new role in helping the 76ers win a championship this season.
Jaylen Brown Responds to Jayson Tatum's Claim About Being Surprised by His Celtics Exit
Over the past October, things between Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been interesting. While Brown claims the Boston Celtics pushed for a trade, the tension between him and Tatum is somehow changing that narrative.
There's a chance that Brown could've truly left Boston because of Tatum. In an initial interview with JT regarding JB's abrupt exit, the Celtics star claimed to have been "caught off guard" by the situation. Brown saw Tatum's comments and reposted them on his Instagram stories with a cap emoji as the caption, signaling that he believes his former teammate was lying.
When Tatum was asked about his thoughts on Brown's reaction, the Celtics star still claimed that he didn't know anything about the trade. JT then clarified that it's far from the "Shaq and Kobe" situation in the early 2000s.
Fast forward to Sunday, Sixers reporter Kris Rhim had the opportunity to speak with Brown. Rhim brought up Tatum's reaction to his Instagram story post. JB then hinted that while there's no animosity between them, there's some sort of rift.
"It's no beef, and I think he's right," Brown told Rhim. "It's no beef. Jayson comes from a wonderful family. He's accomplished some great things. He's a hell of a basketball player. He's got a great PR team."
"It’s no beef, but it might be little lamb chops and some gravy, you know what I mean?" Brown continued. "He should stay ready at all times."
While Brown's message was quite cryptic, one could easily tell that he's trying to stay professional about the situation but subtly letting everyone know that there's a little something going on between them.
