Stephen Curry's Pitch to LeBron James to Join the Warriors
For the longest time, the idea of LeBron James and Stephen Curry playing together was considered a pipe dream. Then there was a sudden, dramatic shift that suddenly placed the Golden State Warriors as favorites to acquire the 41-year-old free agent.
That shift started after Draymond Green admitted on his podcast that he personally pitched the idea to James while they were vacationing together. Aside from Green, Curry has also had the opportunity to sell the idea of playing together to James.
The Warriors superstar was given another chance to sell James on the idea of playing together. This time, it was while he appeared as a special guest on 'Good Morning America.'
While they were speaking, one of the hosts asked Curry to repeat his recruitment pitch to James.
"The Bay, we know how to win. We have beautiful weather and great golf. I know he's into that," Curry said. Then, he shifted his focus to basketball.
"The USA experience that we had, the battles we've had over the years, we just know how to play basketball," he added. "I think that he'll enjoy just the idea of what it means to finish your career the right way."
That statement drew amused 'oohs' and 'ahhs' from the hosts, but Curry continued.
"He knows what he wants, and eventually he'll make that decision," Curry continued. "It's totally up to him, but we're having fun with it, knowing he's got his pick of the entire league."
While James can technically pick whichever team he wants, not every team is a real destination.
Earlier, the San Antonio Spurs had gone in a different direction, prioritizing their young core while adding a floor-spacing vet in Tobias Harris.
The New York Knicks have also been ruled out as a destination, with many believing such a move would hurt the legacies of both sides.
It's also safe to say that any team that isn't considered a title contender can be ruled out.
Interestingly, the Golden State Warriors are not considered title contenders given their current roster. However, they are somehow a finalist to sign LeBron James, thanks mostly to Draymond Green.
Draymond Green Admitted That He Spent Part of His Vacation With LeBron James to Recruit Him
Golf has become increasingly vital to LeBron James' life, to the point that it's being used in recruitment pitches. While a few players and organizations have mentioned golf as one of the selling points, Draymond Green used golf itself as an opportunity.
The two NBA stars recently spent some time vacationing in Puerto Rico. Part of their activities is golfing, and during that trip, Green took the time to shoot his shot.
"I'd be remiss if I didn't take the opportunity to throw my pitch in there," Green said on his podcast. "I'd be crazy if we were together for x amount of days, and at no point am I like, 'yo, we need to chop it up.'"
While James has not commented on where he's going, Green's pitch was enough to put the Warriors at the top of James's list of possible destinations.
