Rockets to Get Involved in Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade to Land 5-Time All-Star: Report

The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade landscape continues to evolve. Initially, the New York Knicks were viewed as the primary trade partner, with reports linking Giannis to the Big Apple in February. But discussions with the Milwaukee Bucks failed to gain traction. Since then, several teams have emerged as potential destinations, and now a Western Conference team has entered the picture.
According to reporter Evan Sidery, the Houston Rockets could become involved in trade discussions between the Bucks and the Boston Celtics. Sidery reports that Houston would act as a facilitator, adding another layer of complexity to a potential deal.
The Rockets ey are reportedly willing to create a package around Jabari Smith Jr. and Reed Sheppard to acquire five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics. Additionally, they are willing to include the Phoenix Suns' 2027 pick.
In this scenario, the Rockets get a star to pair with Kevin Durant. Meanwhile, the Celtics create a new duo with Giannis and Jayson Tatum.
On paper, the Rockets gain a better ability to hang with the top-tier teams in the Western Conference. In fact, their star duo could help them make a significant postseason run, which is something they failed to do this year, losing 4-2 to the Lakers in the first round.
Meanwhile, the Celtics remain one of the most title-ready teams in the East. Instead of a Brown-Tatum pairing tho, they get a more proven star in the Greek Freak, which could take them further than the first round, where they lost to the 76ers in seven games this season.
Tatum takes much of the offensive load that Giannis had to carry in Milwaukee. Tatum gets a taller, longer partner, but without the perimeter scoring that Brown provided.
Interestingly, the Bucks and the Celtics can do a deal without involving a third team as well. They can go ahead with a 1-for-1 deal for Giannis and Brown, and both teams get a star.
What the Bucks need from the Celtics if they include Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown would be a centerpiece for almost any team in the league. This past season, he put together one of the best campaigns of his career, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. With Jayson Tatum spending most of the regular season recovering from an Achilles injury, Brown led the Celtics to a 56-26 record, the second-best mark in the Eastern Conference.
For the Bucks, though, it's not enticing enough. Not because they don't want a star like Brown, but because they want to prioritize youth.
According to multiple reports, Milwaukee would rather get young talent and draft picks in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
In fact, per Sam Amick and Eric Nehm on 'The Athletic,' the Bucks will likely trade Brown for those exact assets should they acquire him in a Giannis-centric trade.
With this knowledge, teams that want to accelerate their timelines could get involved.
Several teams are in the market for a win-now star, making Brown the perfect target. He's only about to turn 30 in October and has played what is arguably the best season of his career. He can become a second star for a potent one-two punch, as he's shown with Tatum over the past few years.
With him in play, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics have a better chance of getting exactly what they need out of a trade this summer.
