Timberwolves' Bumper Trade Package for Giannis Antetokounmpo Revealed as Insider Hints at Roster Overhaul

The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade saga continues to gain momentum. While reports suggest he strongly prefers to remain in the Eastern Conference, several Western Conference teams are still looking to enter the race, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have reportedly put together a package to bring the two-time MVP to Minneapolis.

Per NBA journalist Jon Krawczynski, the Wolves are planning a complete overhaul.

"I do think there's going to be some sort of fairly significant roster change," Krawczynski said. "The starting lineup on opening night next season is not gonna be the same starting lineup that finished this season."

However, Krawczynski also noted that, in theory, a Giannis trade is harder for the Milwaukee Bucks to pull off.

Assets-wise, the Wolves have some players who could fetch a hefty return. One player currently in the rumor mill for the Wolves is Julius Randle.

He's a three-time All-Star and has averaged at least 20 points per game in five of the past six seasons. While he may not be a franchise cornerstone, he has more than enough talent to thrive as a high-level second or third option on a contending team.

Another player who has been mentioned in trade rumors is Rudy Gobert. While he doesn't offer the same offensive versatility as Randle, the four-time Defensive Player of the Year remains one of the league's most impactful interior defenders.

Standing at 7-foot-1, Gobert has been a dominant rebounder throughout his career, averaging 11.7 rebounds per game.

That said, neither player was included in the hypothetical trade package for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

What Do the Bucks Want in Return From the Timberwolves?

The Milwaukee Bucks appear fully committed to going on a rebuild already. The post-Giannis Antetokounmpo era will start with finding the next franchise cornerstone who will hopefully lead them to another championship era.

To serve that goal, they are leaning more toward acquiring young talent and draft picks.

They are also reportedly unwilling to acquire another established superstar who is already on the older side. That is reflected in their reported lack of interest in trading for Jaylen Brown as the next cornerstone of the franchise.

This is where the Timberwolves have an advantage over other teams. According to an article by Sam Amick and Eric Nehm for The Athletic, the Wolves have assets that are exactly what the Bucks want and need.

If the Wolves want to acquire Giannis, they will need to fork over Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid, and Terrence Shannon Jr. Additionally, the Bucks want the No. 29 pick in the upcoming draft, as well as a first-rounder in 2033. They already own Minnesota's No. 10 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

All three of McDaniels, Reid, and Shannon Jr. are under 27 years old. The eldest of them is Reid, who turns 27 this August. Shannon Jr. and McDaniels both turn 26 in July and September, respectively.

Each one of them has already proven themselves, showing up in times when the Minnesota Timberwolves need them. Understandably, they are the kind of talent that other teams would jump at the chance to acquire any one of them for the right price.
