Giannis Antetokounmpo's potential availability has sent shockwaves across the NBA. A two-time MVP who led the Milwaukee Bucks to a championship, he is widely viewed as the type of player who can instantly turn a franchise into a contender. Unsurprisingly, teams from all corners of the league have been linked with potential offers. However, not everyone believes the 31-year-old still carries that kind of transformative influence.

Sports commentator Michael Wilbon went off on the Greek Freak, saying that teams should not go to great lengths to trade for him.

"I don't believe in Giannis anymore. Giannis is a rumor," Wilbon said on Padron the Interruption. "He hasn't done jack in the months that matter, which would be May and June since 2021. Five years is forever in professional sports."

The Bucks won the championship in '21, largely thanks to Giannis, who averaged 35 points and 13 rebounds in the Finals against the Phoenix Suns. But since then, he hasn't been able to lead the Bucks to a deep playoff run. In 2022, they lost in the Conference Finals to the Celtics, and in 2023, 2024, and 2025, they lost in Round 1. 2026 was even worse, as Milwaukee failed to make it to the post-season.

Injuries have played a role here. In 2023, he appeared in just three playoff games, while in 2024, he missed the entirety of Milwaukee's postseason campaign. Overall, when healthy, he's averaged above 30 and remained a threat. But his impact has surely reduced since 2021.

Wilbon also shared his opinion regarding the rumors that the Heat — desperate for a shot at the championship — are the frontrunners to acquire the Greek Freak.

He would not trade Tyler Herro for him because Herro is an All-Star caliber player, who has consistently been one of the leading scorers of his team. He also pointed out that, in terms of attitude, Herro has been better than Giannis.

These issues came to the forefront in 2026, when Giannis publicly went against the Bucks' wishes. The franchise wanted him to sit out the season and focus on recovering fully for the year ahead. However, the fierce competitor that he is, Giannis chose to give everything he had, even without fully recovering from his injuries, simply to ensure he had a chance to compete.

Interestingly, Michael Wilbon also said that he's seen Tyler Herro play more games lately than Giannis Antetokounmpo. That said, there is a mismatch between Wilbon's statement and the actual numbers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Played More Games Than Tyler Herro Despite Injuries

Over the past three years, Giannis Antetokounmpo has played 176 regular-season games.

He had 73 outings in 2023-24, which was the most games he played in a season over these three years. That year, he averaged 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks. He also led the league in 2-point attempts and makes, as well as free-throw attempts.

In 2024-25, he played 67 games. He posted the exact same scoring average as the previous season and also led the league in field goals made per game. Additionally, he put up 11.9 boards and 6.5 dimes.

This past season, the injury bug struck the Greek Freak. He was limited to a career-low 36 games, but when he played, he still put up the numbers fans have gotten accustomed to, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists.

Giannis was also an All-Star each year during this span. Furthermore, he made the All-NBA First team in 2024 and 2025. He was not eligible to win any awards this past season because he did not meet the NBA's 75-game requirement.

During that same stretch, Tyler Herro only suited up in 152 regular-season games.

He played 42 games in 2023-24, averaging 20.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

Then, in 2024-25, he would play over 70 regular-season games for the first time in his career. Through 77 games, he put up 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. That was also the year he earned his first, and so far, only All-Star nod.

This past season, Herro played even fewer games than Giannis. He only had 33 outings in which he posted 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.

In terms of their roles for their respective teams, both players continue to excel.

Herro is a volume scorer with the green light to let it fly from downtown, and he puts up great scoring numbers.

Meanwhile, Giannis is a do-it-all cornerstone star. He might not have the same shooting ability as Herro, but he doesn't need it to have high-scoring games. Whether the Heat listen to Wilbon's advice, remains to be seen.
