LeBron James Promotes Derrick Rose’s Unexpected Role at Presidents Cup

In Sep. 2024, Derrick Rose called it quits on playing in the NBA after 16 years. It was sad to see him go, especially considering that he was only 35 at the time. However, shortly after, he found a new passion that he turned into a business, and last week, it hit a significant milestone.

Away from the hardwood, Rose is enjoying his time as a professional florist, and recently, Rose's Flower Shop partnered with the PGA Tour for the Chicago event at Medinah.

Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James went on Instagram Stories and reshared a post by Uninterrupted about Rose's florist adventure for the Presidents Cup 2026. In the post, Rose explained why he transitioned from basketball to becoming a florist.

"We are creating a rose business, Rose's Flower Shop," Rose shared in an interview. "For one, I would say my family business, giving my nieces and nephews, creating a safe haven for them, creating a fortress for them, something that I didn't have growing up, and utilizing our name the right way. So, for me, it felt like it was a no-brainer."

Rose's business is based in Chicago and is built on values centered around family and community. The flower arrangements his business brought were lined near the first tee throughout the four-day Presidents Cup from Thursday, Sep. 24 to Sunday, Sep. 27, and a special arrangement also lined the trophy.

Derrick Rose on His Road to Becoming a Florist

In the same interview, Rose shared what his journey has been like since starting Rose's Flower Shop. He explained how he's still a student in the game and is humble enough not to use his celebrity status to generate sales.

"I would say I'm still learning," Rose said. "I'm a work in progress. I put myself around great people. If anything, we're building this brick-by-brick, and understanding that it's okay to be patient. I'm not trying to exploit my celebrity or force people to partner with me. I'm going with people who want to work with us and love the brand."

Apparently, to Rose, while there's a huge contrast between his two careers, he feels like being a florist is similar to being a basketball player.

"Is there any correlation between this and basketball? I would say yes," Rose said. "I was talking about building this brick by brick; it's the same thing you do when you're mastering a move. So no shortcuts."

Less than two years after his retirement, Rose opened Rose's Flowers Shop in January. His business is currently being operated under an online platform.

Despite the lack of a physical store, Rose has actively been participating in pop-up events around Chicago to promote his flowers. He also has limited and exclusive roses such as the 'Chicago Red' and 'Summertime Chi' bouquets.

His new career almost feels destined, considering what he did after retiring from the NBA. After announcing his retirement in 2024, Derrick Rose sent a bouquet of 16 flowers to each of his close supporters, and that just seems like perfect foreshadowing of his new life.
