Kevin Durant Responds After Content Creator Sparks Controversy Over Jalen Brunson

Jun 1, 2026, 11:49 PM CUT

Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks have punched their ticket to the 2026 NBA Finals after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. This is the Knicks' first finals appearance in 27 years. Brunson has undoubtedly become the captain of the ship and has successfully led the Knicks to a deep playoff run.

However, Brunson wasn't always expected to lead the Knicks to their first finals since 1999. In 2025, New York expressed interest in trading for Kevin Durant. Unfortunately, nothing came to fruition. Content Creator Tubby, on the other hand, is fine without Durant on the Knicks after Brunson carried the team this season.

"F**k KD, we got Brunson," Tubby posted on social media.

Durant saw the content creator's post and had a hilarious response.

"Finally, y'all can release yourselves from my Yerna means," Durant responded.

It's unlikely we'll ever see Durant in a Knicks uniform, at least in the near future. KD recently signed a veteran extension with the Houston Rockets. His new contract is worth $90 million, inclusive of a player option in the 2027-28 season.

Kevin Durant's Former Teammate Wishes Jalen Brunson and Knicks Good Luck

For the first time since 1999, the New York Knicks are going to the NBA Finals. Jalen Brunson vowed last season that they would come back stronger than ever after losing to the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals.

Brunson has proven to be a true leader for the Knicks in the playoffs, averaging 26.9 points, 6.6 assists, and 2.8 rebounds. His efforts in sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers earned him the Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP award.

Kevin Durant's former teammate, Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving, recently praised the Knicks for the hard work they've put into reaching the finals. He also acknowledged Brunson's efforts in leading his team.

"The Knicks making the Finals is OD," Irving said on his Twitch livestream. "Knicks fans gonna go bonkers, man. It's gonna be one of those ones. …They done made it to the NBA Finals, done earned their ticket … I'm excited to watch them too … Mike Brown leading the helm, Jalen Brunson great PG … great pieces around him."

Looking back at New York's road to the finals, it was somewhat of an easy journey. Funnily enough, the first round was their most challenging series. The Knicks went 4-2 against the Atlanta Hawks in the opening round. Moving forward, New York swept the Philadelphia 76ers in the semifinals, then swept the Cavs.

Now, the Knicks will have to wait for who will emerge victorious in the Western Conference Finals as the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder will do battle in Game 7 on Saturday.
