New York City continues to celebrate, albeit with authorities keeping a close eye on maintaining order. With the Big Apple still buzzing after its first NBA Championship in more than 50 years, secured when the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs earlier this week, players and fans alike turned out in style for the highly anticipated victory parade.
To begin the parade, Jalen Brunson, one of the series' heroes and the Finals MVP, arrived carrying his daughter, Jordyn. Meanwhile, the Larry O'Brien trophy came clutched in the hands of Knicks assistant coach and Jalen's father, Rick.
As the team marched down their planned route, Karl-Anthony Towns was filmed shaking hands, dapping up fans, and signing autographs. And all while they were being flanked by 10,000 NYPD officers.
Per reports, this is the largest planned deployment of New York's police force in the city's rich history. Of course, that's an understandable response from the authorities, given how chaotic the fans have become during this playoff run.
Even before the Knicks made the NBA Finals, the fans were already getting overexcited. Riding the wave of the team's 13-win streak in the post-season, fans became too rowdy during watch parties.
In fact, this led to arrests and ultimately announcements that watch parties in the vicinity of Madison Square Garden were being canceled.
With each Finals victory over the San Antonio Spurs, Knicks fans grew bolder in their celebrations. In fact, some overzealous supporters even caused bodily harm to Spurs fans, despite Mayor Zohran Mamdani's calls for peace.
The presence of 10,000 NYPD officers helped ensure fans could enjoy the iconic moment safely. And the celebrations may not end with the parade. A documentary chronicling the championship run is reportedly also in the works.
One of the Knicks' Biggest Supporters is Working on a Documentary Covering the 2026 Title
The New York Knicks boast one of the most star-studded celebrity fan bases in sports. Almost every game, celebrities like Timothée Chalamet and legendary director Spike Lee can be spotted courtside. So, if there were ever a documentary about the franchise's success, it would almost certainly be Lee behind the camera, right? As it turns out, not quite.
Instead, Ben Stiller is the one taking charge of the project. He dropped some hints on it when he appeared on NBA Tip-Off before Game 4, in which the Knicks came back from 29 down to beat the Spurs.
At the time, Stiller did not confirm many details. Only that there was an upcoming project, and that a bulk of the footage was filmed on his phone. Later, it was confirmed that he was working on the project in partnership with HBO and A24.
The actor confirmed it on the 'Roommates Show,' and said that Madison Square Garden and the NBA are also officially part of the project. He also shared that there is no official timeline for it yet, but that it will be actively worked on over the next year.
There are plenty of angles to cover with the Knicks 2026 playoff run, even going back to before the postseason started.
The way the team was built became quite controversial, as the supposed 'Nova Knicks,' a collection of Jalen Brunson's Villanova teammates, was partially broken up before they had a chance to play a single regular-season game together.
Then, there's the mid-season drama. Discussions of a Karl-Anthony Towns trade, reported disconnects between the coach and the players, and the typical noise surrounding a team that isn't heavily favored to win the title.
Overall, there should be plenty of juicy content for Stiller to cover and include in his documentary.
