One of the biggest stories of the summer is Greek star Giannis Antetokounmpo's NBA future, with growing signs pointing toward a move to South Beach. But for the Miami Heat, a potential blockbuster acquisition could become even bigger, with the man who led the franchise to its most recent NBA championship also being linked to the team.

The Heat want to win, and they want to win now. So, if they do get Giannis, they would look to maximize their title window with the 31-year-old by bringing in another win-now star. And according to Sam Quinn, that star is LeBron James.

According to Quinn, Miami's front office can accomplish this without even trading Bam Adebayo, the best player on the Heat right now, who scored 83 in a single game last year. Instead, they can send Canadian Andrew Wiggins to the Los Angeles Lakers via a sign-and-trade agreement.

While Wiggins and James are not quite on the same level of talent, it's a move that fits with LA's supposed plans.

The Lakers are in a position to focus on building around Luka Doncic, and they intend to prioritize that.

Doncic is a dominant on-ball creator who is most effective when he has the ball in his hands. Aside from Doncic, they're also expected to retain Austin Reaves, meaning the Lakers would have two players who need the ball in their hands to be effective.

Wiggins, champion with the Golden State Warriors in 2022, will fit right in with that star backcourt pairing, as he's shown before that he can thrive without being the primary option. He averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds in the Warriors' six-game win over the Celtics in the Finals four years ago.

During that regular season, he averaged 14.0 attempts per game with a 46.6 percent conversion rate. He posted 17.2 points per game and was named to his first, and so far, only All-Star team that year as well.

In the playoffs, he averaged 16.5 points per game and was a major factor on defense. That said, of course, some things stand in the way of pairing Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James on the Miami Heat.

What's Stopping LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo From Teaming Up

There are some major roadblocks to consider when thinking about teaming Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James up, the biggest of which is desire.

It's already been well-established that Miami is Giannis' preferred destination, but what about James?

The four-time NBA champion is an unrestricted free agent. Still, he has reportedly been negotiating with the Lakers already, as revealed by insider Brian Windhorst.

“I think LeBron’s intention is to play,” Windhorst said to ESPN. “And I think the focus right now is making a deal with the Lakers. Right now, he’s allowed to negotiate with the Lakers, and I believe they are negotiating. I believe they are going back and forth.”

That is a strong indication that he's heavily leaning toward staying in LA. And if he's going to be included in a sign-and-trade, he needs to approve of his destination.

Otherwise, he could simply refuse to sign a contract and negotiate with a preferred alternative destination.

As for Wiggins, he has a player option for the 2026-27 season. If he doesn't like the idea of getting traded, or if he doesn't like where he's being sent to, he could just decline that player option.

Both Wiggins and James have significant control over their immediate futures due to their respective contract situations. That means both the Heat and Lakers need full approval from either of them before committing to a deal.
