Host Mike Greenberg Blasts Knicks Fans for Throwing Eggs at Victor Wembanyama After Game 4

It was a tough night for Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs after losing to the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals. After appearing to be on the verge of victory on Wednesday, the Knicks surprisingly came back from a 29-point deficit to secure a 107–106 win. Following the huge victory at Madison Square Garden, Knicks fans took their unruliness to a new extreme.
New York fans have faced increasing scrutiny in recent weeks for their disruptive behavior. Despite previous arrests, some fans reportedly went as far as throwing eggs at Wembanyama, marking a new low. ESPN host Mike Greenberg criticized the behavior and called Knicks fans a disgrace.
"I don't want to call them fans," Greenberg said on ESPN. "I don't even know what you want to say. If you’re throwing eggs at Victor Wembanyama and if you're beating up people, threatening, or doing anything to people wearing Spurs jerseys, just know that you are a disgrace. You're not disgracing the city, you're disgracing yourself and everyone who knows you, and that should go without saying."
Several arrests were made after the Knicks' Game 3 loss on Monday. New York fans started trouble and a--aulted every Spurs fan they saw walking the streets of NYC. Despite the NYPD making an example of unruly fans who were initially taken into custody, it appears that some Knicks fans remain undeterred and continue to be “passionate” about their team.
Fortunately for the fans who threw eggs at Wembanyama, the Spurs star didn't retaliate. Wemby noticed the eggs thrown at him but chose to ignore them and head straight inside the hotel. The NYPD also surprisingly gave the unruly fans a slap on the wrist, simply warning them to stop their antics.
Sports journalist wants to see more brutal punishment for fans who threw eggs at Victor Wembanyama
The NBA world is buzzing after New York Knicks fans threw eggs at Victor Wembanyama. While it's natural for the opposing team to act in a hostile manner, throwing physical objects at players could lead to harmful scenarios. Eggs may be harmless, but it's still disrespectful to throw them at a player.
Sports journalist Stephen A. Smith vocalized his thoughts regarding Wemby's incident. While ESPN's Mike Greenberg deemed the Knicks fans as disgraceful, Smith went as far as wishing they would get beaten up to know what it feels like to be treated in a disgusting manner.
"This is disgusting," Smith said on First Take. "The fools who did it, not only do I wish they knew who it was and they get arrested, I wish they get their a-- kicked. Because see, it's real brave to do something like that when you're surrounded by a whole bunch of people."
It'll be interesting to see how San Antonio Spurs fans will respond in Game 5, considering how the series will head back to the Spurs' home court. Hopefully, the Spurs fans aren't petty enough to get back at Knicks fans in attendance. However, the worst-case scenario could be that Knicks fans could be waiting for a receipt.
