Giannis Antetokounmpo Shows Off Insane Soccer Skills One Day After Viral Champions League Blunder

Jun 2, 2026, 4:45 PM CUT

Giannis Antetokounmpo didn't let a mistake made by broadcasters during the biggest club soccer game in the world deter him from taking a crack at the sport. He seems to be having the time of his life in Europe, with the stress of the upcoming NBA season still a few months away.

The Milwaukee Bucks forward was in attendance at the Puskás Arena in Budapest for the UEFA Champions League Final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain on May 30, which the French side won on penalties. The day after, he participated in a soccer match that was streamed by Twitch star Marlon.

As it turns out, Giannis killed it on the field. When he saw the highlights of his performance on social media, he took to X to simply admit, "I just love playing sports."

Giannis seemed to be playing the role of a midfielder and did a fairly good job of dribbling the ball, carrying it toward the box, and setting up his teammates. His 6-foot-11 frame was too much for those around him to handle, as he could also be seen winning duels with ease and forcing the goalkeeper into a few difficult saves with his powerful shots.

It was certainly a much better Giannis advertisement than what had happened a few hours before.

Before the game, in the very same stadium, Giannis was interviewed about the matchup ahead. Being one of the most famous athletes in the world, it quickly became news when his team was listed as the "Boston Celtics" instead of the "Milwaukee Bucks."

It was also the perfect way to stir up some controversy as we head to the off-season, especially with Giannis' future up in the air. Some speculated that UEFA accidentally revealed which team the Greek superstar will play for when the 2026-27 season tips off.

But Celtics fans should not get too optimistic just yet. While Boston continues to be loosely linked with Antetokounmpo, there haven't been any offers made to Milwaukee yet. “I've certainly not sensed any great urgency from [the Celtics] to break up their team," Zach Lowe said last month.

And recent reports suggest that the Miami Heat and the Portland Trailblazers have emerged as the strongest suitors.

“More and more, with sources saying Miami and Portland are already in pursuit, Antetokounmpo's future is increasingly expected to be resolved over the next few weeks in conjunction with NBA Draft proceedings," insider Mark Stein reported to ESPN.

For now, Giannis can enjoy soccer. But very soon, he will have to make a tough call. He can choose to stay in Milwaukee and be part of a rebuild, or he can join a team that gives him a better chance of playing basketball in June instead of being in Europe watching others compete for the sport's biggest prizes.

NBA Insider Urges Thunder to Trade For Giannis Antetokounmpo

Now that the Oklahoma City Thunder have been eliminated from the NBA Playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs, it's back to the drawing board for the 2025 NBA champions. Word on the rumor mill is that General Manager Sam Presti is going to work hard to make offseason moves that he believes will get them back to the top once again.

NBA insider Brett Siegel suggested that the Thunder should try to trade for Giannis. Siegel feels that OKC has gathered enough assets to tempt the Milwaukee Bucks into trading Antetokounmpo to Oklahoma. They could even include 2022's No. 2 pick, Chet Holmgren, in a potential package.

"The Thunder have been gathering future assets for years, and tonight proved it’s time to use them," Siegel reported on X. "Sam Presti and OKC have the perfect opportunity to move their draft picks this year and Chet Holmgren for Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason."

They could also use some of their young talent, such as Jalen Williams, Nikola Topic, or Ousmane Dieng, along with their big pile of future first-round picks, to sweeten the deal. Perhaps throw in Alex Carusso to sweeten the deal even further?

As it turns out, the Thunder will not be interested in Siegel's proposal.

"League sources have long maintained that Oklahoma City would not take part in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes that will dominate the summertime conversation, but this sort of stunning finish is enough to re-spark that conversation," journalist Sam Amick reported.

Where Giannis actually ends up remains to be seen. Damian Lillard will be healthy again next season, which makes Portland an attractive destination for Giannis. The Heat, too, could be competitive with Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, Tyler Herro, and Giannis running things in South Beach.

The sad news for Milwaukee fans is that a future in a Bucks uniform doesn't look very likely for Giannis at the moment. He's a player who needs to compete at the highest level, and being on a team incapable of doing that just isn't the right fit for him.
