"Go Back to Cleveland": Ex-Cavs Star Makes Strong Request to LeBron James

As we rapidly approach the conclusion of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, free agency is also on the horizon. One of the biggest free agents heading into the market this offseason is LeBron James.

Earlier this season, James didn't opt to extend his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, leaving a lot of questions in everyone's mind regarding his future in the league.

While many assumed that it was Bron's way of announcing his retirement, it seems that the King isn't done yet. He expressed his desire to still play, but hasn't made a decision on where he wants to do it.

In a recent episode of the 'Road Trippin' Show,' James' former teammate, Channing Frye, shared his thoughts on where he wants to see him play next season.

"Go back to Cleveland," Frye said in response to a fan's comment regarding where he wants to see James play. "Go back to Cleveland, that's what I want to see. Go back home. Last year. Let's get it done. Cleveland can move on from James Harden. So now they have a ball handler. They have a guy who can play four different positions. He'll make them tougher, or he'll call them out and get them traded, either one."

James going back to his hometown would be a fitting way to end his career. The King started his career with the Cavaliers in 2003. He led the Cavs to five NBA Finals appearances and won one championship with them in 2016. A homecoming retirement tour undoubtedly sounds like the best way to go out.

LeBron James Will Prioritize Going to a Winning Team Next Season

While fans are worried that the second-round series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder was the last everyone got to see LeBron James play, it seems that he isn't done yet.

James hasn't officially declared his retirement yet and said that he'll ponder his decision during his family vacation. The King specifically mentioned that he intends to make his choice come either late June or early July.

Retirement could still be on the table. However, based on his statements in a recent episode of his podcast, 'Mind the Game,' Bron made it seem like he aims to play next season.

The King made it clear that he wants to be in a winning situation next season if he decides to gear up for year 24.

"Winning is most important because you want to be excited about going to work every day," James said on the podcast. "You want to be excited about winning the day. Being around a group of guys that feel the same way, and trying not to take steps backwards."

With that in mind, Channing Frye's sentiments of wanting to see James go back to Cleveland may not seem like a bad idea. The Cavaliers are currently in the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks. Regardless of the result, the Cavs have proven that they are solid contenders in the East, which matches perfectly with the King's requirement.

For now, everything remains to be seen. The basketball world will have to wait for what looks to be James' 'The Decision' 3.0.
