Alexander Zverev’s US Open victory speech came with more than a trophy. It came with an unexpected jab at Trinity Rodman. After beating Ben Shelton in four sets to claim the title, Zverev turned his attention to Shelton’s girlfriend, who missed most of the match for her NWSL game in Washington.
“Trinity, I thought you had a game today, no? Well done to you as well. You’re the lucky charm. Not today, but usually,” Zverev teased.
Social media lit up immediately. Some fans thought Zverev was playfully acknowledging Rodman’s role as Shelton’s “lucky charm” throughout the tournament. Others saw it as awkward, teasing her in front of Shelton.
Shelton himself didn’t appear bothered, smiling through the moment. But fans joked that Dennis Rodman might not have taken it so lightly had he been courtside.
Trinity has been busy fulfilling her soccer duties and then showing up at the US Open to support Ben. She was starring for Washington in the NWSL against Boston Legacy FC, arriving late to New York after her match. She has often been credited by fans as his good‑luck charm.
Her growing profile in soccer adds another layer to the spotlight. Already a cornerstone for Washington, she continues to balance her own career while supporting Shelton’s.
Trinity Rodman Opens Up on Relationship With Dennis Rodman
Dennis Rodman is one of the most famous or infamous players to ever step foot in the NBA, depending on how one looks at him. Rodman was a tough player who focused on defending and fighting for rebounds. His tenacity on the court is what helped Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls win three more rings from 1996 to 1998.
However, despite his greatness on the court, Rodman always had problems off the court. He was often intoxicated, partying with different personalities, and would often get caught having affairs with multiple women. To the public, he wasn't exactly a role model.
Apparently, even during his fatherhood, Dennis still struggled to become the man that his family looked up to. Back in December 2024, Dennis' daughter, Trinity Rodman, was interviewed by the Call Her Daddy podcast. In that episode, she talked about her relationship with her father and noted the struggles and challenges that came with it.
"We had an expedition, and we kind of lived in that for a little bit," Trinity said about living with Dennis. "We tried to live with him, but he's having parties 24/7. He's bringing random b***hes in. He loves the spotlight. He loves the cameras. He loves bringing his children on stage… I lost hope in ever getting him back… He's not a dad. Maybe by blood."
Sad to see how Dennis never overcame his struggles from his earlier years in the NBA. Fortunately, Trinity turned out okay, as she is flourishing in the NWSL as a football star for Washington.
