“Steve (Kerr) Love Him”: Devin Booker to Warriors Is Still a Possibility, Says Insider

Back at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Devin Booker willingly accepted a reduced role off the bench to help Team USA win gold under head coach Steve Kerr. A sacrifice that reportedly left a lasting impression on both men. That same bond is fueling fresh speculation that Booker could still end up in a Warriors jersey, with one longtime insider insisting Golden State would jump at the chance.

Longtime Bay Area reporter Tim Kawakami made it clear that the Warriors' interest in Booker hasn't cooled, even with no obvious opening on Phoenix's roster.

"I think the Warriors like him too much, if you ask me," Kawakami said. "But they love him. Steve loves him. Booker loved playing for Steve."

"If that plays out in a poor way, they've traded every draft pick," he added. "How do they get draft picks back? How do they restart? I know the Warriors would be first in line saying, 'we got three first-round picks we can give you.'"

That level of optimism isn't coming out of nowhere. Phoenix has been swept out of the first round of the playoffs in two of the past three seasons, missed the postseason entirely in the other, and has had four different head coaches over that same stretch.

Booker is still just 29 and in the middle of an 11-year run with the only franchise he's ever known. He represents exactly the kind of disgruntled star that rebuilding situations tend to produce and exactly the kind of name the Warriors have quietly attached themselves to as they map out life after this era of Stephen Curry.

Beyond the relationship with Kerr, the appeal of a Booker trade comes down to fit. At 6-foot-5 with a smooth, high-volume jumper, Booker offers the Warriors something close to what Klay Thompson provided for over a decade. A lethal scoring guard capable of playing alongside Curry without needing the ball in his hands at all times.

It's a profile the Warriors have been missing since Thompson's departure. And one that would immediately reshape their offense around two of the league's best shooters.

On the same podcast, co-host Marcus Thompson floated several other stars as long-term targets for Golden State. They included Nikola Jokic, Anthony Edwards, Chet Holmgren, and Orlando's Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero.

But unlike those names, Booker already has a personal history with the Warriors' coaching staff and culture. It was built directly through that 2024 Olympic run, a connection none of the other speculative targets can claim.

For now, the idea remains speculative on both ends. Phoenix has given no indication it's ready to move Booker, and Golden State has no obvious trade exception sitting open.
