Lonzo Ball to become restricted free agent as extension talks fall through

There will be no agreement on a rookie extension for Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball, @KlutchSports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN. Ball will become a restricted free agent next summer. Both sides remain positive about the ability to move forward together, Paul tells ESPN.

ANALYSIS: Ball will enter his fourth season in the NBA under his third different head coach in Stan Van Gundy, which is probably why the Pelicans want to see how he'll fare with this new-look New Orleans bunch. His timeline clearly fits theirs, but the team probably wants to see if his offensive game continues to rise before committing a ton of money to him, especially since they just paid Brandon Ingram big money and they know Zion Williamson's going to cost a lot of dollars in just a couple years.
