The Philadelphia 76ers have been on everyone's radar ever since LeBron James and Jaylen Brown joined the team. Forming a superteam with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, many are expecting the 76ers to contend for the title, if not win it entirely.
Former 76ers guard Patrick Beverley recently shared his thoughts on the formation of the new superteam. After watching the workout video of Brown, James, and Maxey, Beverley believes that the league is in trouble.
"Bro, I just watched that video of Tyrese Maxey, LeBron James, and Jaylen Brown working out," Beverley said in his uploaded video on Instagram. "Man, it’s trouble, man. Belt. Philadelphia Belt. Everybody’s bodies look great, Bron still dunking. If we get a little bit of this version with Philly, man without a doubt."
As of this offseason, according to sports odds, the 76ers are the fourth-favorite team to win the NBA championship this coming season, with +900 to +1,000 odds. They aren't the top favorites to win because of potential chemistry issues they could face.
Looking at the four All-Stars, all of them are ball-dominant. That was one of the reasons why the pairing of LeBron and Russell Westbrook in the Los Angeles Lakers didn't work out.
However, according to league insiders, the 76ers plan on allowing James to play at the point guard position. Meaning his task is to set up the trio of Brown, Embiid, and Maxey. It'll all come down to whether the three main scorers can share the spotlight.
Former Lakers Star Expresses Concern For LeBron James and the 76ers
As mentioned earlier, one of the biggest concerns for the Philadelphia 76ers heading into the 2026-27 season is their chemistry. While the idea of having four All-Star-caliber players is reassuring, it doesn't necessarily guarantee their success.
Over the years, we've seen plenty of superteams form and flop. One of LeBron James' former teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers, Dennis Schroder, recently voiced his thoughts on the new 76ers team.
While Schroder acknowledged the strengths and abilities the four All-Stars have, in his book, the 76ers might've bitten off more than they can chew.
"There's only one basketball for 48 minutes," former Lakers guard Dennis Schroder, who now plays for the Charlotte Hornets, said in a translated interview uploaded by Basket-Infos on X.
"You have LeBron James, one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Joel Embiid, who was MVP. Tyrese Maxey, who's reached All-Star level. So I'm really curious to see how all this is going to work ... I think it would almost be too much for me to play on a team like that," Schroder concluded.
However, based on how things have transpired for the new Sixers teammates this summer, they seem to be okay for now. James, Jaylen Brown, and Tyrese Maxey getting a head start in practice sessions is a good sign for the team.
We are still a month away from the NBA training camp, yet the trio is already hard at work getting to know each other on the hardwood.
