While the media, the internet and Jaylen Brown himself keep stirring the pot of the Brown vs. Jayson Tatum feud at any chance given, the latest Boston Celtics vs. Brooklyn Nets game gave the Celtics broadcasters a new angle to jab the Philadelphia 76ers star in a way he probably didn’t see coming.

“About to do more PR work for him (Tatum), but 34 points, 8 assists, 16-of-20 at the line, zero turnovers. A big fat zero turnovers for number zero,” the commentator said, following Boston’s 1225-124 win over the Nets. “Now if I were doing PR work for Jayson Tatum, I would remind everybody who led the league in turnovers last year. But I'm not doing that.”

For those who’ve been following the latest off-court drama between these two, the whole “PR” thing shouldn’t come as a surprise. Though both JB and JT managed to keep their dispute out of the public eye during their time in Boston together, it resurfaced when Tatum recently stated that he didn’t see Brown’s move to Philly coming until it happened, in the latest episode of his documentary series, "Summer of Jayson.”

But Brown wasn’t the one to buy into it. While the Bleacher Report circulated JT’s clip on Instagram, JB responded with a blue baseball cap emoji, implying that Tatum was lying. Although Tatum clarified that there was no beef between the two, and both are old enough to resolve any conflict without the internet interfering, Brown had an interesting way to keep the embers burning.

"There's no beef," was Brown’s response to Tatum’s remarks. "Jayson comes from a wonderful family. We've accomplished some great things. He's a hell of a basketball player. He's got a great PR team. It's no beef, but it might be a little lamb chop. And some gravy. He should stay ready at all times.”

Now, it's unclear in what sense Brown wanted the PR thing to land. But it probably meant that Tatum has a wide media following and coverage for him, which makes it easy to share some untruthful perspectives about the same events. But the commentators in the Celtics’ latest game used that punchline to claim that if Tatum had a better PR team, there would be more people discussing and comparing the two players’ games.

And that’s a battle where Tatum probably would’ve won.

People could’ve discussed more about the 2024 Finals MVP going to Brown (20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists) instead of Tatum (22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.2 assists). They could also talk about Brown’s higher TO (3.6) than Tatum’s (2.4) last season. Or that Brown’s averaging 20.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in Philly, whereas Tatum’s off to score 24.0 PPG, 6.7 REB, and 8.0 AST in Boston.

But what is being discussed, though, is Brown’s subliminal shots at Tatum, and the internet or fans trying to blow it out of proportion. Which ultimately speaks volumes about who’s actually got the beef and a “hell of a PR team.”
